For those of you who might be interested, this is a Kitty Wells song. That's how musically intelligent and super cool GG really was. To go back that far and pull out an old 1940's country song from a sweetheart like Kitty Wells and recompose it into a pseudo-punk folk song.... Incredible... RIP GG.

I'm not exactly a huge fan of punk but my boy gg knew his country. There's a lot of Hank Sr and Jr and David Allan Coe and even bluegrass influence on his country shit. This song is actually by Kitty Wells. Respect.

Once my girl was conscious, she had better days with you Then fame and fortune came your way and made a change in you You climbed your latter of success and I'm not on solid ground And when it starts to trouble, pick me up on your way down Pick me up when rose are shattered, when false friends cannot be found Oh you know I'll still be drinking, pick me up on your way down I've hit the bottom of the glass, there's just one way to go The world I've chosen for my own is one you'll never know When folks say they don't know me, say I'm not on solid ground You will find me in my alley, pick me up on your way down Pick me up when rose are shattered, when false friends cannot be found Oh you know I'll still be drinking, pick me up on your way down Pick me up when rose are shattered, when false friends cannot be found Oh you know I'll still be drinking, pick me up on your way down

its not abnormal for all musicians (no matter the genre they happen to be involved in) to go back to traditionals. the musical journey usually ends where it starts and repeats. all art is just someone's take on something they heard and felt connected to. gg being a somewhat depressed outlaw eoyld obviously gravitate towards this type of music

+bobbelafonte Do you (or anyone else reading this) know when/where this was recorded? It looks almost like it could be the Clermont in Atlanta. My husband, Freddi Griffin, was GG's drummer in the Southern Baptists and also played a Murder Junkies gig with him after Dino was arrested in Dalton, Georgia. The Southern Baptists released a 7", "Look into My Eyes and Hate Me" b/w "Hotel Clermont (My Whorehouse)" and their song "I Am the Highest Power" was released on a couple of compilations. Jeff Bakos, who played bass in the Southern Baptists and also produced and engineered the 7", spoke to GG over the phone while GG was in prison and they planned to do more after his release... then the next they knew he was dead. R.I.P, GG.

a lot of people come and go. or songs you listen to kind of drop away. but some hold through, and even if living in a little more of a seminal finer condition! than GG's lifestyle, I keep going back to gg's acoustic songs, and his Jabbers albums.. they don't deteriorate or lessen in influence of feeling. And I like that he is still hated by people that can't feel the same kind of feeling I get. When you hear his maddened crazy suffering psychotic ass going in and putting some beauty and good music out. Back again to listen to this tune when seeing this earth as a shitty earth. Or wondering what in the fuck car insurance fees are. and the yuppification of nearly everything I enjoy. And feeling like an alienated ostracized son of a bitch, etc.

He didn't remake the Kitty Wells version, he remade Patsys version, he remade a remake, and still owned it SO well, I'm not into his screamo mess at all, I'm a old school country, doom country and rockabilly fan through and through, and this man did some great fucking country, even his screamo songs were great as long as he did them acoustically and half nodding off from heroin, wouldn't consider myself a full on GG fan but I will cut for him and stand up talking some shit anytime I hear anyone talking down on the man, as I've seen on the comments of sooo many of his songs, rest in piss GG

Danny Elder Same thing with Hank Sr, we will never know what could have come out of either, but you have to consider the possibility that they wouldn't be so legendary if they hadn't died so early on in there careers, folks seem to love what they did do all the more knowing they died true to their music, doing the same shit they sung about, not just making shit up as they went along like sooooo many of these pop bitchs our to make a dollar today
