Sangwoo is the snake that’s inside 99% of us.
@mellchiril

The thing is... we the audience know Sang-woo's a snake, and Gi-hun might start to realize it as well, but the rest of them don't yet know this side of him. Obviously Ali shouldn't have trusted him the way he did, but that's pretty much only known to us, the audience. Ali knew him as the guy who bought him ramyeon, allowed him to borrow his phone, gave him money for the bus... then inside the games as the one who helped protect the team during the midnight battle, and the guy who came up with the winning move in tug of war. They shared a nighttime watch together where they talked, Ali got emotionally close to Sang-woo... So when Sang-woo suggested something that might end up sparing them both obviously he would try to ensure his buddy's safety. Was it naive? Yes, definitely. Is it understandable? Yes, also quite definitely. And sure, Sang-woo did what he had to do to survive, in his mind it probably makes a lot of sense... but he's the guy who would only look out for himself. He's pleading for his family while he's the one who put up his mother's house and shop as collateral or however you spell that word while commiting fraud. How much does he care about his family? Probably not a whole great deal. I don't trust this guy to win and pay off his debts, secure his mother's future, and live a decent life. He's more than just a snake to me. Problem is... I don't think a lot of us would've chosen differently if we'd gotten the chance. Not many of us are willing to sacrifice ourselves for another person. I'd like to say I'd admit defeat, but if I were ever presented with such a situation I wouldn't know what I'd do either. I'd probably definitely not be like Ji-Yeong, giving my life willingly... it's who I'd like to be, but I'm not delusional enough to think that I'd be that epic. I'd probably lose and cry while dying, cursing the day I ever made the decision to join suid game.

I think the only thing that didnt make Ali hurt as much as it was very clearly going to happen at one point in the game due to his personality, most likely due to him believing someone he shouldnt (small chance goes out like 240). 240 hurts far more to me because you get to see someone reflect on their life playing a game where they living causes someone else to die, realizing they have absolutely nothing waiting for them on the outside, and just bowing out.

I have lived as an immigrant/foreigner in 3 countries (2 english/1 french speaking country). As much as you have a well developed survival extinct, many times you simply must trust a local for some sort of assistance-9 times out of 10 they come through. The 1 time that it goes wrong, it's catastrophic (deportation, loss of under table job opportunity etc--) so Ali's trajectory hit home for me. Having said that, I Still would not have given up my marbles in a life and death game.

😂😂😂 You just can't do it. Having said that we get the sense that the language barrier may also play apart in why Ali got tricked. But we can't be 100% sure on that as we're just watching it in Korean
@bbd121
2 жыл бұрын
@@ShokoBoyz In a sense, to Ali, Sang Woo is the only good Korean in Korea. He has been taken advantage of ever since he stepped into Korea, but he continues out of desperation. Sang Woo is the only person who treated him with kindness; giving him money without asking for anything in return, giving him food and lending him his phone even though it's likely nobody out there would trust him not to run away with the phone. In the games, Sang Woo included Ali when people like Han Mi-nyeo made fun of his illegal migrant status. And twice, Sang Woo's advice saved his life. So, according to Ali, if he couldn't trust the only good Korean, the only Korean who is kind to him, then who could he trust? This culminated with Ali calling Sang Woo "Hyung"; which the show translated to "Sang Woo", for some reason. Hyung translates to 'elder brother'. If you rewind and pay attention to Ali's last words, his final words were "Hyung! Sang Woo Hyung?" Which the show translated it to "Sang Woo", when in fact it should translate to, "Elder Brother! Big brother Sang Woo?" I hope I made sense.

37:28 Here's what I'll say about the way Ali went out. I wish the director had changed one minor thing about that scene. When Sang-woo handed Ali that pouch necklace, I wish he would've done something with it. I wish he would've put it around Ali's neck, shook it (so we could all hear the "marble sounds"), and then tucked inside Ali's jacket and pulled up the zipper. At least then, it would've looked like Sang-woo did something constructive. He tricked Ali into thinking that it was dangerous to walk around holding the pouch and it was dangerous if he put the pouch in one of his pockets. But at least if the pouch was hands-free hanging around his neck and hidden under his zipped up jacket, it would've seemed like there was a reason for all of Sang-woo's efforts that actually would've added a layer of safety. Ali, who was hesitant at handing over the pouch, could at least be seen as someone who recognized that his marbles actually seemed safer after doing so. Instead, Ali seems happy to have handed Sang-woo his pouch only so Sang-woo could put it around his neck with some discount rope and let it hang out there for all to try to grab. That didn't seem any safer at all. And Ali smiling and shaking it just made him look like a simpleton. I could buy him handing the pouch to Sang-woo because he was naive and trusting. But to smile at the end product which CLEARLY wasn't safer made him look... how to put this... more than just naive and trusting.
@foilhattiest1

You just summed up my own exact thoughts after watching that scene, spot on. I was absolutely expecting Sang-Woo to zip up his jacket after hanging the pouch around his neck to hide it from view, and was so confused when he didn't. It was like "well what was the entire point of that then?", and that really should have made Ali at least a little bit suspicious too. It not only makes Ali look like a complete idiot, but makes Sang-Woo look like one as well for suggesting having it hanging like that would be "safer" in any way.
@hihellothere9569

I think if that happened then the reveal of the Rocks inside the pouch would take longer. In fact it would take a lot longer to see that it would be unrealistic for the guard to not shoot while Ali was unzipping and opening the pouch. I mean that's probably a reason why, my personal take on your change because honestly if the scene dragged a second then it wouldn't be good
@MrROKinROK
2 жыл бұрын
@@hihellothere9569 At first, I had no idea what you were talking about because I couldn't figure out how that would drag anything out. And then I realized I may not have been clear on what I was describing. When I said I wished Sang-woo would've pulled up the zipper, I didn't mean all the way up to Ali's neck. I meant up just enough to obscure the pouch. At that moment when Ali was checking it, he wouldn't unzip anything. He'd simply pull the pouch up which takes zero seconds more than pulling the pouch away from his body as he did in the actual scene. And again, we'd avoid Ali looking like a complete dimwit which was so damaging to his character.

Ali.. when he said sang woo in the captions he was not saying sangwoo. he was saying older brother. in korean u call ur friends that are older that are male hyeong if u have respect for them and look up to them. it was heart breaking because hes basically calling out for his brother, only to be abandoned by him and betrayed.

To make it even more heart breaking, the subtitles didn't truly reflect what Ali was saying when he was calling for Sang-woo. He was saying Sang-woo Hyung (which means older brother or someone who is like an older brother to you). He thought of Sang-woo as an older brother and never dreamed he would steer him wrong.

Great reaction guys!!!!!! When I tell you I cried this episode...just know it lasted a good 20 minutes after it was over. Pure heartbreak. 💔 Here were my picks for this episode: MVP: Ji-Yeong. She avenged her mother's death, got out of jail, and jumped right into the games. She knew she had nothing to live for. She found a friend, let go of her demons, and helped her move on to the next game. Mad respect. And the hardest death for me. Just seeing that there is still good in people when you are surrounded by SNAKES!!!! Biggest L: obviously for me was Sang-woo. He preys on the weak and vulnerable. The lowest of the low and no one will convince me otherwise. 🤷♀️ Andrew Wiggins: Number 29. John Wayne. I know you feel he's got to go, but I still need answers at this point. 🤣 Catch you on episode 7!!!

Is willing to embark his knowledge to others has he gave a life lesson to *Gi-Hun* that taking advantage of others will only get you so far. *Gi-Hun:* Trusting of others = 4, A person that see good in others and fells bad when he is forced to go against others he trust. He is an optimist at heart but does not take thing to seriously he always strives to make a quick buck. *Ji-Yeong:* Trusting of others = 3, She is an optimist but the life she lived she should have been a pessimist and the dialog with *Sae-Byeok* learn about her and what brought her to the games shows her optimism toward others.
