Okay... serious question: HOW COULD ERIC AND BRYAN NOT REALIZE THAT IGNORING THE SEN TRIPLETS ON THE BATTLEFIELD WAS A TERRIBLE IDEA!? There are some commanders that just can't be allowed to live, and Sen Triplets happens to be one of them. Especially when the Sen Triplets player can use mana as if it were of any color, which means he can cast anything from anyone's hand.

Also there were two mono green decks at the table. They can be relied upon to help them selves and interact with board threats approximately never. I don't think this game was even about bad threat recognition. Had either of the mono green decks decided to do anything about sen, what answers did they have? Turning small creatures sideways. Best case scenario, turning fat creatures sideways. Yeah. That doesn't even slow him down, just annoys him a little.

Two mono-green decks... guess which color excels at blowing up artifacts, which Sen Triplets happens to be? ;)
@animeexpresscon
6 жыл бұрын
True. But how much artifact hate are you going to run in mono green? Enough to draw it in the first 10 turns? Enough to draw more for the additional 2, or 3, or 4 casts of the triplets. Yes, it would have helped. But how many slots are you allocating to artifact destruction in order to achieve that? Even assuming, you were able to take care of the sen triplets deck, how could you have survived the Kalemne deck that can now cast those spells instead of the sen deck? I'm just saying that the players piloting the mono green decks don't have a plethora of answers to deal with the board state. They have to put out huge threats to either punish aggression or avoid being attacked. In short, I'm saying that its not their fault. They both played mono color decks and as such you only have so many ways to interact. I can't put "tunnel vision" on decks that I wouldn't expect to have a bunch of answers anyway.
@DarkEinherjar
6 жыл бұрын
Except that one SHOULD expect all three decks (two mono-greens and a Boros) to have solid answers to an artifact creature, just like one expects blue players to run countermagic. I do believe there was a case of very poor threat assessment here, especially from Eric, who focused most of his offense on Bryan (who, despite that explosive ramping, didn't really do that much with it) and Muddstah's Nissa, even though Jamie had already taken a spell away from him. In the end, he killed Bryan, but lost too many mana sources and could no longer cast his expensive creatures, allowing Jamie to steal them from him at his leisure. I hardly blame Bryan for ignoring the Triplets, because he was just trying to survive Eric's assault at that point.

Guilhez not without reason. Aside from Avacyn, who was busy keeping Kalemne in check, Jamie was leaving only the Sen Triplets untapped. He played safe, choosing to take the hit instead of blocking with the Triplets and potentially losing them if Eric had drawn something that could exile Avacyn (like Swords to Plowshares) or return her to his control (Homeward Path).

why was jamie not blocking or attacking if he knew everything in eric's hand already and his own permanents were indestructible with avacyn having vigilance. Jamie was trying to kill Muddstah first and save Eric for last, and probably didn't want to bring Eric's life to a low enough total so that Muddstah could kill him out of nowhere, thus getting rid of everything Jamie stole from him, including the Avacyn and the Platinum Angel.

Problem with running mono 10+ drops is that you get 1 per turn and are assuming that your opponents aren’t running any control. That triplets deck was beastly tho jeezus lol also I don’t ever usually see boros decks perform well, yet your past X games have all had some awesome R/W commanders xD

I have a pet peeve when it comes to people tapping their permanents the wrong way (as indicated by the tap symbol), but understand that this may be due to convenience for left-handed people, or I guess having preferences for other reasons... for some reason. Anyway, my point is that I love Azusa as a commander and Bryan had a great opening hand, and so I was routing for him until he tapped his permanents in _different directions_ on his second turn. This is _unforgivable_ and I would appreciate it Muddstah if you let Bryan know that he has made an enemy today.

God forbid someone uses a commander that doesn't scream "deal with me now or die" or isn't a carbon copy of the same 5 - 6 decks seen in every 4 player game. I think people sometimes forget this is supposed to be a fun format. Just that it has turned into a competitive scene the more and more time goes on. Unless you play a competitive deck, it is like you can never be in a game playing a casual deck without getting severely punished for it from some try hard.

Sen Triplets is really not so bad if you don't let them get out of control. Keeping the Triplets off the battlefield is the best way to shut that deck down, but Bryan held onto Path for the Azusa player instead of using immediately on the Triplets. Blightsteel sucks to deal with, but at least it is fast and you can go to game 2 quickly to bounce back.
