Glute hamstring raises are unique in that the hamstrings contract both through the knees and hips, providing an unparalleled range of motion of effective tension. Get comfortable with these and you'll never look at a hamstring curl (which only trains knee flexion) the same way again.
Reverse hyperextensions allow the posterior chain to be loaded just like a deadlift, but minus the compressive and shear forces on the spine.
With greater range of motion in the hips while sparing the back and ability to load the lift, reverse hypers and glute ham raises are overall superior options to traditional hyperextensions or knee flexion exercises provided you have the equipment handy.
