Love the fact that the parents weren't fully evil. They definitely loved their son as shown their mourning of his death, holding on the model of his tank, and waiting on him to possibly return. Hell they even sorta recognized that it may be him as a tank.

This episode of stand alone complex layers upon layers of emotional well-being and human will power. It did leave for a bittersweet pill. A man trapped between religious and parental controls in yet trying to fight to live in one way or another. It was painful that he went through all that just to show his parents that I fought to live on my own terms.

You wanna cry a little more? Here is the lyrics of the perfect song from this episode: Scott Matthew - Beauty is within us O mother dear Look what you've done To your forlorn and once beloved son Why was I born at all? O mother dear I'm such a freak A mutant man, a woman underneath Why was I born at all? It's you I blame for all the shame This anguish and this aching The mirror turned against the wall Myself despised, forsaken You say, "Beauty is within us, your mother knows" "There's a beauty that's within us, just like a rose" You say, "Beauty is within us, so let it grow" But it's grown so dark and ugly O mother dear I curse you so For breathing life into your wretched son Why were you born at all? O mother dear I love you so O please forgive this anger in my soul Without you I'm alone It's me who's been eternally damned Trapped inside this cage, a ruined man All damaged and depraved O mother dear This misery Has settled like a stain upon my skin A vast unspoken sin And my mistake is much too late But your mistake was trusting That out of grief, a goodness comes And love comes out of lusting You say, "Beauty is within us, your mother knows" "There's a beauty that's within us, just like a rose" You say, "Beauty is within us, so let it grow" But it's grown so dark and ugly You say, "Beauty is within us, your mother knows" "There's a beauty that's within us, just like a rose" You say, "Beauty is within us, so let it grow" But it's grown so dark I can not see you anymore "O beauty is within us, mother knows" "O beauty is within us, like a rose" "O beauty is within us, let it grow" "O mother dear, let me out of here!" Now, roll over... and cry...

I always wondered, if religion was what stopped the guy from getting what he needed to survive....why did he stick with that religion? He was a adult, he could have made that call without his parents at any time.

Religion is a funny thing. It builds a person's world, delineates boundaries. Your idea of what is possible and permissible is going to be fundamentally different from his, often different in ways that neither he nor you could even be aware of, nevermind change.

Indoctrination is a horrible thing. It takes away a person's capability of reason within certain topics, doctrines are attached to emotions and identity, it takes a huge amount of willpower to let go of those beliefs. Btw, this is true to any sort of doctrines, such as patriotism, cult of personality, brand favoritism, political alignment and so on... one must always be watchful to not fall within a doctrine, to become a fanatical.
@feraflauna3238

@@keithklassen5320 Japan is also entirely a different culture, especially when it comes to the religion you were raised in and taught by your family. You simply don't covert to a different religion raised that way. You just don't. To covert might possibly bring shame and embarrassment to your traditional family. I feel with this episode, it wasn't the religion holding this guy back, it was his parents. He had lived in so much pain and suffering for so long but his parents and their religious beliefs prevented him from getting the cybernetic transfer that is far more common in this future. Religious parents like this seem to view cybernetics as an abomination of the natural order. So this guy transferred his mind into a cybernetic shell and he knew full well what his parents were going to see him as. An unholy monster. He understood that. It's more up to interpretation over how exactly he choose to create a stampede to try to find his parents. Why he wanted to come to them like that. Maybe it was a desperate plea to accept that he was still Takeshi deep inside. I'm still your son, I have the right to live and not suffer, can't you see that? Maybe he wanted to see them suffer like they allowed him to suffer, but I lean towards the former. His outstretched hands towards his mother speak volumes. He doesn't seem to be putting them up to attack but rather to extend it, please touch my hand and see me as Takeshi. Are you still proud of me? It's actually really sad.

It was his parents' adherence to the religion that made him not do it. In fact this was an early sign that he loved his parents which wasn't noticed. With his body death, he was in a way, free from the rules of the religion.

I don't understand. Kago's brain was not in a braincase when he died, cause of his religious beliefs. Was his brain transplanted somehow? It is mentioned that it can take people years to get used to their prosthetic bodies. Yet this guy got used to a tank body in about a day?

He was working on a team to build the tank for a larger defense company, unless he did it in secret before his death then that inclusion in the design would have raised questions and put people onto what his plans were and even then as part of a larger team project there was no way to guarantee that his voice box additions would have remained undiscovered before his plan could be executed

Thanks for sharing...yes, interesting to realise that i am not the only one seeing that very scene as the conclusion of the whole episode. The whole Season of GITS is full with knowledge and philosophy we seem to have casted aside, in these modern times, to do anything fast and quicker with every year. Be it consumption or the resulting pollution and damage to our eco system. I guess it`s because they force us to fit into a smaller world, easier to be controlled, while the answe is very simple. We globaly need to realise the philosophy that there is a much bigger picture, and we are the actual virus. Our planet is an breathing eco system where everything, depends on anything. Ones that ballance is disturbed beyond repair, we will be judged and decimated to a handable level, or extinct. Mother nature just needs a couple of million years to recover. Sorry for speaking my mind, but that was the very thought i had, would i have been Motoko!

I always find this episode so confusing. Why is Kago just running to his parents when he has no way to communicate with them while refusing to communicate with the only people that could have helped him? Also if his religion prevented him from modifying his body to save his life when did he get that brain case that his friend connected to the tank. You don't get those installed after you die.
@donovangrant424
3 жыл бұрын
He isn't operating on rationale and logic. When he got uploaded it was a secret project he requested of his personal friend who had connections, which could have very easily been done any time between him being scouted and him dying. He also didn't think the people he was surrounded by were going to help him in any way. Though truth be told, it's more of an artistic expression here. He knew his regular body would die, so he created an artificial body to live on despite his family's religion. They knew who he was based on the toy he gave them, and he managed to fight his way through the city to reach them. His perfect work was a tank that could fight off a tactical squad alone and stumble on home, and he wanted his parents to see he was thinking about them by becoming that idol he left behind. It's less direct than at first glance but it's easy to parse.
@zeddez3342

@@donovangrant424 Then he killed himself twice just to rub it in his parents faces. Think about it, his family's religion prevents him from getting the body modifications he needs to survive so he lives almost up to the very end and decides to change his mind and get the body mods that are against his family's religion but not to save his life. Instead he secretly puts himself in his perfect tank and rampages through the city to scare his parents and die again in front of them without any human bit of him left. And you say he wasn't acting with logic and rationale but he had to in order to get past section 9. Remember the part when he hacked Saito to prevent him from blowing him up? If he really just wanted to show his parents a better way he would have gone against there wishes and gotten a regular cyber body and moved on with his life. He was the lead designer at a very famous weapons manufacturer, he had the money and connections. Instead he went for a joyride in a tank, suicide by cop, and eternal damnation in his parents eyes. Phew what a rant for a cartoon lol
