I loved the characters and side missions personally.

I definitely enjoyed them a lot more on my first time round, but during my second play through I found them flat and tonally too similar. But I'm glad you loved them!

I’ve only played this game on PS5. Kinda glad I waited because the difference between 30 and 60fps in game play is so much better (i had a PS4 pro but sold it right before Covid cause I wanted the PS5, not realizing how the pandemic would change everything) but it was well worth the wait. It def feels like a mix of God of War, Uncharted, and Spider-Man because it’s a Sony game.

Yeah if people are happy to wait I would always say try to experience this at 60fps for the first time. It's like people who first played Days Gone or Horzion Zero Dawn on PC, their experience will be better than PS4 players, at least gameplay wise.

I think the game's story might come across as flat because of historical/cultural context that us westerners don't have, and the current japanese might not even have either. The story at its core is about Jin coming to terms with how he needed to abandon the core tenants of his culture and morals, in order to save his culture and people. The 1st Mongol Invasion as depicted in game, was the first one to use gunpowder as a weapon. Liberal use of archer units were considered dishonorable/invalid even to the Romans centuries before. Japan never grew out of this mindset until the industrial revolution. This would have been an unimaginable existential crisis for Jin, a lone samurai, but not a Ronin. Jin comes to the conclusion that the Samurai would need to change its war strategy in order to win--and this change in war strategy was antithetical to the samurai and the law. What the samurai are supposed to be is represented by the fixed camera duels in game. In real life, the 1st Mongol invasion only ends because the Mongol fleet is destroyed in a typhoon. This is directly represented in game as well. The more ghost abilities you use, the worse the weather gets. The story really isn't about Jin and his companions. It is about the events that lead to the first Ninja. Most of this isn't explicitly stated in game. You have to know a handful of details that most people wouldn't have background knowledge of. The writers and game designers did though.

See that all sounds fantastic and a great jumping off point for a story. I really liked Ghosts narrative and plot point, especially on my first play through as it kept me engaged the entire time. But on my second I really noticed the sometime flat dialogue writing. Which is the most imporant part of a story, especially one told over 10s of hours of gameplay. It's why Red dead 2 is constantly engaging no matter what is happening because what is being said is so interesting and well done. Where much of Ghost of Tsushima is flat stoic character saying flat dialogue, which don't get me wrong is kind of the point, these are old characters stuck in their ways, the samurai, so it wouldn't make sense for them to be super energetic or anything like that. Overall a good story but kind of flat, but I love you rundown of the specifics, very thoughtful!

@@ryanphillips7863 katanas were invented in response to the mongol invasions of Japan. the devs did drop the ball on not having that be a plot point/quest

@@Diogenerate Ohhh I did not know that. I'm also a little surprised when stories use real historical moments to tell their story but don't go 100% historical. Alternatively you do an alternate timeline thing, so same events but very different outcome.

This game is outlandish on the 5! Never got far on Pro but now 30 hours in almost done with first island. But I digress, another great video to watch, and as has been previously mentioned it’s cool you actually put hours into the games you are talking about.

Very true, Ghost plays so much smoother on PS5 and it was already great at 30 fps. I really want to finish every game before I review it to really get the whole experience and I've done that so far. Thanks for checking out my content, I really appreciate it!

Yeaaah I didn't really want to put it on there becuase it's a PS3 game and that's the same with The Nathan Drake Collection. Purely subjective reasoning to not include it but if it was there it'd be in the 10/10 range. I also may or may not be working on a PS4 Exclusive list video that will greatly expand on the image in this review.

I played this after playing Days gone for the 9th or 10th time, I wasn't sure if I would like it as I prefer ranged weapons in my game play, not so much on melee combat. Though to be fair I did enjoy it more than I thought I would but by the time I got to the 3rd chapter I was just plying it to finish the game, I have tried playing through again on game plus but I'm struggling to get motivated to finishing it. I can't wait to get a PS5 so I can play Days gone again.... 😂😂

I can completely see that. I loved Ghost of Tsushima on my first playthrough and then liked it a little bit less on my second, which this review is based on. The game plays and looks gorgeous but the open world is a lot less exciting the second time around. But Days Gone still felt fresh and exciting to explore the open world. I'm not sure if it's because I had a 2 year break from Days Gone and only 6 months from Ghost of Tsushima but Days Gone was definitely a better game overall the second time round.
