Try using DAS clay, it won’t crack the way Crayola and the cheaper ones will :)

Waterbased "Verithane" it is made by rustoleum I prefer the matte. You can also use Modge Podge to seal it.

My Halloween prop building fanatic self was like “how much faster/easier can I do this using really thick fabric and monster mud 2.0?” (Equal parts thin set concrete mix and exterior paint which makes it into a waterproof hard shell). But the idea is super cute and yours is way better/cleaner looking for an inside display piece. Thumbs up and subscribed 👍

I tried this without this video, just saw the short clip. I’m glad I saw this. Mine doesn’t have cut outs, thought it was black paint! Definitely had cracks because I didn’t sand. I’ve been repairing cracks now for 3 days and slowly drying with plastic. I still have 2 pumpkins so I will have a better approach and will cut out for tea lights. Someone mentioned putting a thin layer of glue underneath the clay rather than sanding it. Thinking of trying that. What are your thoughts on that?

Yes the first one I made was with black paint! I’m not sure about the glue, maybe it could work! I haven’t tried it myself

@@lisaneeley-q9l quick & thick wood glue would be perfect, that's what alot of peeps use to attach air dry clay to things.

No matter how much patching or anything I did the clay would crack. I even added pva glue to the clay to try to get less cracks and lift (yes I sanded it). I’m gonna try foam clay cause this just wouldn’t work for me
@_intheworkplace
27 күн бұрын
@@nicolechia2272 oh no!! I’m so sorry this didn’t work out for you! Foam clay is a great alternative! I will say that with foam clay, it’ll be a bit more challenging to create the “sheet” look. The foam clay will dry a bit more uniform, but I’d say you could put a foil base underneath to where you want the sheet draping to look so that way when it dries, it can still hold its shape 😊

Try a different air dry clay, like Sculpey or DAS. Natural earth based clays, like crayola, crack when drying against something because the clay is shrinking as it dries. Instead, try a paper-based (DAS) or modeling (Sculpey) air dry clay.
