I was looking for this movie for years! Couldn’t remember the actors name or the name of the movie. Then it popped up in my feed, I was thrilled to say the least! Stuck in my head since I was 21 now 63.

That Is One Scary Girlfriend You Had Back Then because I’ve watched it back on TV back in 87’ because I remember watching that terrible scene there which featured Eva scaring that old man causing him to fall from that bridge & onto that frozen over pond orso.

I was just watching Eli Roth's "The History of Horror". The newest episode was about ghost films. I couldn't believe he didn't mention this movie. It's one of the best of that genre.

That's because Eli Roth is not really into horror films, he's into sicko documentary snuff stuff like genital mutilations. Not my cup..

I remember watching this a few times during it's initial run on cable TV, I was 12 or 13 then. Scared the ever-lovin' bejeezus outta me, which wasn't necessarily a bad thing since I was a hardcore horror/slasher geek during the '80s. Well, I was pretty much a geek, period. Scary movies were one of my "geek" sub-categories. I always liked it. It got hated on severely in its' day, most of it being of the typical, high-handed, snob-tastic "It-totally-sucks-compared-to-the-novel" kind. I tried determining if that was at all accurate by reading said book by Peter Straub; I think all I got was a headache before giving up. Movies based on novels-- especially long ones, and I recall Straub's version was precisely that-- almost invariably take certain liberties with the source material, usually for purposes of pacing, or trimming parts down because no studio in America is going to back a 3- or 4-hour epic treatment of a book that wasn't a runaway hit. I guess some folks don't quite appreciate the differences between "scary" using the written word, as opposed to using a visual medium. Now then: had the marketing guys managed to put the word out (without making it obvious) that the audience could look forward to getting a couple nice, long looks at Alice Krige's absolutely **flawless** ba-zooms, it might have rung up some better numbers at the box office...

It was kind of messed up that she scorch-earth revenge-killed all the guys when only one of them knocked her out. They wanted to save her when the car was pushed into the lake and were genuinely upset by that. Perhaps I am mis-remembering details, haven't watched this in over a decade. But those gruesome face scares throughout this movie are all-time horror nightmare images.

Well, instead of calling a doctor...they stuff her in a car & roll her into the water....when she came to, they saw her struggling, one (Fred Astaire's young version) made a feeble attempt to help, but was held back by the others...they ALL abandoned & betrayed her love & friendship...they destroyed her life & body...they erased her from existence...damn right she was mad. Such a great movie huh :)
