Have you heard about the Ghost villages of Uttarakhand?
Uttarakhand was formed in 2000 for hill centric development. Unfortunately, that dream has still remained a dream for most people in the hilly state, especially the far-flung villages. People still don’t have the basics - road, healthcare and education. As a result, more than 40% of the population of Uttarakhand - have migrated from the rural parts to urban areas. Leaving behind abandoned and uninhabited villages called GHOST VILLAGES. As of now, there are more than 734 ghost villages in the state.
Although, not everyone abandoned their ancestorial villages. Some even returned to infuse life in so-called Ghost villages. One such person is Major Gorki. He is trying to generate employment in his village by working on three verticals -
1) Sustainable Tourism by establishing Pathaal homestay
2) Heritage Restoration through Pathaal Restoration
3) Organic farming through Pathaal Agro
