Installed GBSD a few days ago. Installation was quite smooth. The only issue I experienced was EXT2 support. I believe it utilizes FUSE which does not properly work on BSD. Thanks,.
@-r-3542

Dont use ext2, use ufs or zfs, i personally recommend zfs to avoid data loss, ufs is nice but zfs is better in my opinion, you can use linux to create a zfs pool if you want or ghostbsd itself via terminal..but if you still wants ext2, bsds have some rw support for it, just make sure to use fstab to mount it when your machine boots up, fstab is a good method for this..

I think it's still a 'wannabe' Desktop OS; the main problem is that still - in 2024 - doesn't work out of the box for many (ie doesn't work for none of my hardware - which is not flashy or edge - ; it's just not working straight out of the box; still audio config issues, video drivers etc). And even if it works (ie bootstrap into a desktop environment) there are still issues here and there; on a laptop (but also desktop) for example, still suspend/resume doesn't work (I'm not even mentioning hibernation as it's clear that on FreeBSD it will never work because it's something that the team is not working on, at all), WiFi doesn't work (unless you use super slow external Wifi USB key 2.4 GHz). I use an expensive and magnificent DAS USB Keyboard with multimedia keys; if I touch any of the multimedia keys, the entire OS will freeze and to regain control, the only solution is to power off/on the entire system. An USB keyboard key that freeze the entire OS. In 2024. (This is happening with any version of FreeBSD, 13.1/2, 14.0, GhostBSD etc); not happening with any other OS. Some of the packages seems to be 'stitched' and not in context of the DE. The software center is sad. The look is very tired and old (but this may not be a show stopper for many). Let's not talk about anything that has DRM (ie watching Netflix etc). I would not recommend this to anyone - that isn't a developer - that want to be productive with their computer/laptop (which means, that their only requirement is to work and be productive without messing around with the OS). Sad - because I like FreeBSD - but true. Sorry to sound so negative, I truly don't want to but, I think that if you decide to review an OS, you should be more impartial on the pros and cons especially for the very known issues that lots of users have with this OS: looking at your reviews it seems all roses and flowers but the reality is different, my friend (and trust me, it's so frustrating to see that everything works for you and when I decide to give it a try, it never works for me; that's life wasted that will never come back). Peace.

It's sad that it doesn't work for your hardware but it works for him, hence why his reviews are all roses and flowers. As for wasted life, don't worry. Most hours are "wasted" compared to what we could had done. Just relax and let it flow 😉

When rebooted, CPU (video) registers/interrupts being reset, hence your recording device gets confused and stops recording. May even happen with virtual machines. Somewhat expected behavior.

Rob and others, I put GhostBSD on a virtual machine, mostly because I am fond of Maté. Not being in the tech biz, I find myself just treating it like any Linux distro. This may be fine, but if there is anything I can do that is particular to BSD, I'd like to know

I have a working Ghost BSD with Xfce Desktop…can’t tell you what version at moment because I’m not on my computer as I write this…but I have a problem with an issue it tells me that pkg couldn’t be verified…all the probability solutions I found didnt fix it. My Question is: May could an upgrade of my system (if upgrad is possible) solve that issue? Next questions I have: Is there any way to have Flatpack and / or Snap working on BSD? Is it possible to have my IPhone be connected to BSD (on my Linux Systems NeptuneOS (based on Debian) and Kubuntu its possible and working smooth)? Wine is may nice to have but no need for me😊 If my questions will have a way to solve/workng its real big chance to have BSD as my favorite system! Thanks for helping! Sorry if my English isn’t perfect, as German it’s not my native language! 😊

For GhostBSD you could try If you comment(#) the 2 pubkey lines in /etc/pkg/Trail.conf No snap or Flatpack I'm afraid.... there was an attempt a few years back to create something similar with PC_BSD/TrueOS but it didn't go far... You could try your phone with KDEConnect or perhaps using SMB or NFS.... Your English is perfectly good!

I'm thinking of having Ghost BSD on a partition and batocera on another. I see where you're coming from but the limiting factors for us end users (not programmers/ devs) can be good for productivity. Plus Ghost BSD allows the end user to do more than other obscure operating systems I've heard of lately like Haiku, React OS, Indiana OS and others. Ghost BSD (BSD in general) works better with Linux and Windows apps than other Unix operating systems. Also I switched to Mint Linux over Ghost BSD on an laptop because of a specific feature that's easier to use on mint but I'll admit Ghost BSD was faster on the laptop than Xfce Mint Linux. Also, I forgot to write above but think for a sec about why this is good for kids. Do you really want them to have a computer that has too much stuff on it? Do you really want them to be able to go on any website and download any executable they find? You have to restrict their access a bit...
