New GB II on the NEW was easily better for me, Hal Labs did a great job on it. Unfortunately, it only release in Pall territories and Japan. Not sure why it skipped NA territories, maybe something to do with Activision having the exclusive rights in the USA but not in otgers? Who knows. Its a, shame cos their version (i think the Oliver Twins developed it) was bad.

My head-canon is that it takes place after the _second_ movie, in Spring/Summer 1990. Business got slow enough that Winston elected to leave the group and get his PhD. He mentioned Egyptology in the 2009 game; during the events of _this game,_ he _was_ in Egypt. This game's timeframe should be no more than one to two weeks, maybe three at most.

I'm sure this game had its development cycle shortened by like 1/3rd to account for the cut the movie license and the individual actors would take (Bill Murray & 1990 Dan Ackroyd can't have been cheap). I'm sure the Compile guys were just looking at it as a quick licensed game paycheque on the side with a short turnaround to fund their own ideas. It had Jemini Hirono & Healthy Toyama on it, two of the main Compile guys; Hirono was there almost from the very start, while Toyama was just starting at this point but went on to work on games like Spriggan, Soukyugurentai & Kingdom Grand Prix. They knew what shipping an exceptional product should look like, I'm sure Sega's budget & release timeline probably tied their hands to a degree. In Japan they got it out the doors at the very end of June 1990; they had Batman & ESWAT lined up for July 1990 release, so I'm sure they wanted to get it on shelves ahead of those titles to give it some breathing room heading into school summer vacation in Japan.

I’m really glad you covered this game Sega Lord X. Not many people talk about this game. While I DO NOT agree with your criticisms, that’s ok I still respect your opinion. Out of all the Ghostbusters games out there (even some of the more recent ones that range from great to downright lazy) this game is the best of the bunch in my honest opinion. This was and still is one of the first games I ever owned on the Genesis. I played the hell out of it and I still come back to it rather often. My Cartridge is over 20+ years old and not only is it still alive and kicking, but in prestige condition in fact. The box and manual are still intact and in great condition too. The graphics are wonderful! & I honestly was never bothered by the visuals. I think they are great! It’s also early Genesis so for what the time period was, it’s pretty impressive! You know I always thought this game was super underrated therefore not a big enough community to get a mod. I’m so glad that Winston was included in the “Special Edition” mod. I’m gonna have to see if Etsy had a cartridge available for the mod. Anyways! Great video Sega Lord X! I hope more people cover this game in the future! :)

I mean I get that he wasn't with the team from the start until after their whole montage in the movie, but if the game was meant to be a follow-up then he should have been in it somewhere regardless. I'd love to play the Special Edition. The Genesis game is fun though definitely has room for improvement. The omission of Winston was criminal, thankfully it's rectified here. Louis as a Ghostbuster is a nice touch. Such a shame the planned GB2 game never happened (well, more like got completely changed around). Would've been awesome to have gotten a game that combined the original two movies into one game and let you play through the various sequences. Perhaps someday this Special Edition can get an update called "Movie Missions" or something where you play through levels taken from the films. How awesome it'd be to relive moments like the hotel bust, Gozer/Stay Puft showdown, the courtroom, Statue Of Liberty, Vigo showdown, etc.

And yes, I think most of the music is pretty nice. And overal I think it's a good game... though I think it's hard as nails. Mainly the bosses are very challenging.
