I was 14 in 1992, and yes I remember it well! I was one of the people who missed the very start of the show - I still have the VHS tape I recorded that night, with the first two minutes missing at the start. While I was aware towards the end that this was clearly fiction, the show still left me checking behind my bedroom door for Pipes for a long time after! I'm glad to be able to say I was there for a true bit of TV history in the making.

Wow I rarely hear of anyone having a vhs recording of the live transmission. It would be so cool if you could transfer it and upload to KZitem.

@@sg-zd8eb Not much point really, it's a pretty ropey recording, and you can find a proper version of it online already, it's on one of those archive sites.

Yes i remember watching this with my friends. We were all drunk at the time and were totally taken in by it until it got to the part where the "ghost" went through the airwaves to the studio. Once it got to that we thought it was a bit weird

I was a young kid when Ghostwatch came out. I didn't actually watch it, but I remember everybody who did see it talking about it at primary school the next day, with most saying it had absolutely terrified them. A few claimed had to prove they were bigshots by claiming they always knew it was fake and could see the wires when the chairs were moving around, etc, because that's kids for you. I also remember the whole tabloid furore about it, with the show being blamed for the teenager's death. There was definitely an element of moral panic about the coverage, as the tabloid press have always had it in for the BBC and most people who actually saw it thought it was just a really good Halloween ghost story. I'm pretty sure Robot Wars didn't start until a few years later. So I think Craig Charles would have been best known for Red Dwarf at the time, which didn't really have much of a pre-teen audience.

I was 7 when I watched this live and assumed it was real. I rewatched it again late last year and it's still a good show.

I watch it now and it looks completely fake and cheesey.. But no joke, as a 9 year old kid this genuinely scared the life out of me for a long time... I think that's the most scared I'd ever been as a kid

I watched Ghostwatch for the first time earlier this year (I was only a few months old when it originally aired and I'd never heard of it until this year because the BBC have pretty much memory holed it) and I gotta say even though I know it's fiction... It still worked on me! For the most part I don't really like horror so if I saw this when it originally aired I think I would have genuinely been scarred for life. 😂

I remember watching it, and think I knew it was a drama, so wasn't too freaked out by it, but it was certainly very effectively scary. Fun fact: Mike Smith wasn't in the original script. But when he read the script that had been sent to Sarah Green (his wife) he was all "get me on this show!" Volk was happy to add him in, to take advantage of the higher stakes it brings to the story when Sarah is in danger and Mike can see that and do nothing to help. Sarah Green was cast because although known as a factual presenter, she'd been to drama school, so she could handle the demands of the role.
