I believe it. Once your resident ones know you mean no harm, they leave you alone. I work around them in my garden all the time. You have to talk softly & not make loud noises or fast movements near them. Only a few times when new ones didn't know me did I get bombed by one. And only one sting. If you quickly put wet baking soda on it, that takes the sting out. A local beekeeper said that is how he gets along with his honeybees too. In the garden of Eden, man was friends with all, but sin caused these dangers!

If this happens in the future, turn the container upside down. Wasps are hymenopterans, and so to them "up" means "out." It can be difficult for them to figure out that they have to go down first to escape. If you turn the jar upside down, the wasp will most likely to try get out by flying upward and just hit the inside of the jar.

Bees are super chill. I had an extreme phobia to ALL bugs and buglike things until I was 20. I took up insect macro photography out of an ecological interest when I was at a low point, and now I’m getting around to insects, and bees are among my favorites. I’ve walked into them while flying, and they’re more interested in getting out of my way and finding flowers than stinging. You can also get real close with a camera while they’re polinating, and they’re chill.

Honestly a boot might not be enough, a hammer would be the best bet. 😂 Last summer I fell asleep with the window open in the afternoon and I woke up to the sound of super loud buzzing, turned out to be one of those Japanese hornets. I grabbed a THICK book and threw it at it which knocked it to the ground for a moment, but it immediately flew back up pissed off(obviously😂) and I had to throw the book at it again and I tried to beat it dead with the book, then a shoe, and the mf STILL wouldn’t die and it was like it was made of armor. 😭 I eventually got more terrified and grabbed a little torch lighter and it took about 2-3 minutes of that intense heat to actually kill it. I wouldn’t be surprised if those things crawled out of the pits of hell. 👀

@@TheNefastor Just a playful rib at you correcting the OP. Reddit is a place that has people who will constantly correct others on the smallest of things. To the point it has become a meme and a fun way to poke fun at people. It get it. Proper grammar matters and the collective IQ is getting lower and lower. So don't take it personally. We just having some fun here.
