Flew over this area once from Denver to Seattle already knowing about the Lake Bonneville floods. What a treat indeed! Grew up in the tri-cities in the 60s if only you had been around I'm certain you would have inspired me to be a geologist! Thank you Nick!

Would this experiment work? Take a board to the shoreline where there's tidal flow and a little wave action, find one of the ripple areas. Smooth it down flat. Place vertical stick at the location with "color cut" paste (used to thieve fuel tanks to see how much water is suspended or at bottom of tank). Cover the stick with the paste. Come back later and measure the height and distance between the ripples in comparison to how high the water turned the paste purple. Then transfer that data to inland ripples you are showing. Scale invariance may hold true, water being water. I don't know for sure but if at a shoreline a 1/4" current ripple was caused by lets say 5" of water and lite wave action turbulance then we could postulate a 1" ripple needed approx 20" of water to form?? A 20' ripple / 80' water? Or no.

would there be concentrations of heavy elements like gold caught here? or heavy mineral sands in general?
@Ellensburg44
9 жыл бұрын
iktpq2008 Possible, but the floods mostly cruised over basalt so concentrations are unlikely. Plus....rocks are big in these ripples. Not much sand.

Current formed dunes and antidunes of lingoid and lunate shape even tending occasionally towards chevron dunes associated with tsunamis are found over 200 feet high south of Sharon Springs NY and many miles eastward and westward. Similarly north of there in the western extremities of the Adirondacks and the St Lawrence Valley. The entire Hudson highlands, the Mohawk River and the upper St Lawrence are water gaps formed by epic torrential floods which overtopped the highest hills and tore down to water level a path right through them. In the case of the Hudson Highlands, the torrent cut right through the mountains down to below sea level. A twelve mile long water gap. LAke Champlain is a water gap created by floodwaters cutting through mountains that were once joined but now are called the Adirondack and the Green Mountains. This torrentially drained down the Hudson, In fact the whole swath between the Hudson and the Shawangunk Mountains was torrentially cut through and leveled like a broad bulldozer creating the entire northeast/ southwest running valley. A giant water gap that now is a wind gap.

These ripples have been shown to have been caused by water over 1000 feet deep not 650. This was caused by a world wide flood. No apologies for the inconvenient truth.
