That was close brother, Yikes indeed!! Man, I'm super glad you checked it before you went up the second time, it wouldn't have ended well, that's for sure! It was great to see her fly though, and I'm sure you'll get her ready to really shine soon enough!

Man Brent. One thing after another. SO GLAD that horizontal stayed on! I was surprised you kept flying it after the flutter. The saving grace is it looks as if it will be a great flyer once you get it all reinforced and sorted. One thing to share with you. I notice the hand propping. My buddy Vince, like you, has a ton of experience and has been flying Gassers for years. He hand propped like you without incident for many years. Then a DA 100 backfired on him while starting. He almost lost three fingers. Now everybody in our area uses cloth paint rollers as big chicken sticks on gassers. The fuzzy cloth keeps from damaging a nice prop, and if you get a rare backfire...it throws the roller 100 feet and your hand is still there. Anyway, something to consider. It's a rare occurrence, but it only has to happen once.

Very true. I try not to wrap my fingers around the prop. My eme 70 bit me a few times and that was not enjoyable. Yeah the flutter seemed mild...and by mild i mean no parts came off...hahaha. seemed ok..but youre right i definately shouldnhave landed. The fact it stayed on through a loop and inverted flight is pretty crazy. But yeah...once properly updated i think shes gunna be a real sweetheart

Beautiful job. I love the spring-loaded cowling flaps and scale landing gear. Glad to see your first flight was successful beyond the structural problem and that you avoided a crash reel.

@@hechtspeed Aha! thanks. Interesting to think how airflow and temps would modulate themselves if spring loaded. The throttle-linked might be draggy, stressed at WOT in the air. But, alas, one thing at a time...

So I've got a Zoroli Bearcat with a DA85 Sierra Gear etc ready to maiden and after watching your video i was looking at the 4-40 push rods coming out of the rear fuse for the elevators , now after your flutter I'm thinking im going to cut into the fuse and move the servos back close to the elevators don't want the same to happen to mine. Glad yours survived the flight great job !

Cheated death on that one, watching the video showed a lot of flutter in the elevator and left aileron during certain throttle settings. I guess a new stiffer stabilizer and elevator linkage plus stiffer aileron linkages are in order.

Yep, I would not have kept flying it after it fluttered. I certainly wouldn’t have looped it. You put too much time and effort into it to destroy it on the first flight. Glad you got it down ok.
@hechtspeed

I hadnt put too much time into it before the first flight. Ive had flutter in the past on some warbirds that didnt result in structural damage. The flutter didnt seem to violent so i made the call to carry on and just keep the speed low. Probably wasnt smart lol. But worked out ok. A year later and its a totally different model niw
