GIANT HOGWEED is the arguably the UK's most dangerous plant.
WARNING: Giant Hogweed contains a phytotoxic sap that causes phytophotodermatitis in humans. When the sap gets on to your skin, it reacts with the sunlight causing severe rashes, blistering, burns and even hospitalisation. The leaves, stem & hairs of the plant all contain the toxic sap.
IMPORTANT: It is crucial you know how to identify this plant as it can seriously injure adults, children & dogs.
Giant Hogweed can reach heights of over 5 metres and has a seed head that produces between 30,000 - 50,000 seeds per year. The plant only spreads via seed.
It can be hard to identify the invasive plant Giant Hogweed during the spring months and it is commonly misidentified as Cow Parsley, Rhubarb, Gunnera and Common Hogweed.
In the UK, this plant is mainly seen along waterways, wasteland & railways.
