These beautiful crayfish were observed active and feeding at night in a creek near our campsite. Very long lived ( more than 30-40 years), these ancient and beautiful creatures can be the dominant predator in some of the smaller creeks in the sandstone areas of the Sydney basin, although they spend much of their time feeding on detritus such as leaf litter, fallen branches and algae as can be seen in this video.
