Just checked out the whole faded line on Gibson’s site. Love the idea. As long as they execute it in such a way that it looks high end it should do great. When they do a satin finish on their standard line it should look more custom shop VOS and less Generation series. They pull that off and they’ll have some takers.

That J45 sounds awesome. Nice to see Chris run the guitar through its paces. The faded top looks interesting but I am still beholding to the traditional sunburst top. I just associate the traditional sunburst with that classic J45 look. But that's just me.

Gotta agree with Chris here. In the past I really liked gloss finished guitars as they looked cool. As I have learned more about the acoustic guitar, Satin finished ones are a plus for the guitarist as it makes the instrument more resonant and the more it opens up the tone gets better. Another plus I think is that it gets "worn" out giving that faded look, more like a battle scar from continuous wear and tear. Nice playing as always with Chris, really like that Bluegrass and Blues run.

I know this is not a comparison video, but this is your latest video and I’ve binged so many of them! You guys do a really great job! One thing that would really help your viewers discern the differences between the different sounds of the guitars would be too A/B the sounds without the intros, and the ringing, sustained outro between the demonstrations. The brain forgets the difference in sound in his little as three seconds. So to have the strumming back to back and the picking back to back, and the sustained back to back, would make a world of difference in your viewers hearing the subtle differences. Keep up the awesome work.

Today at the local store I played a new J35 faded and the finish looks more like an open pore than a regular satin finish, especially on the back and sides, very cool. Also it was very responsive and sounded amazing.

That sound is just so all rounded Do you guys think maybe doing a review of the excellente Ephiphone there are not a lot of in depth reviews of that guitar I just bought it and I think it is a gem of a guitar.

Beautiful looking and sounding guitar. I have several guitars by different brands which I love for different reasons. I think of my Taylor AD17 Blacktop as my four seasons guitar because of the full satin finish which is more comfortable against my forearm after a time of playing even during summer. I recently spoke to a person who said he wears an old cut up sock on his forearm while playing at home to avoid moisture on his guitar. My Gibson Songwriter and Martin D-18, I think, sound the best, however, I like satin necks a little more as well.

Chris, I don’t think a satin finish offers more resonance than nitro. The resonance and sustain of a guitar Chris comes from playing it consistently so that it opens up. The gloss nitro shows the beauty of the wood better as well. Gloss nitro does breathe. I own 2 Martin guitars and one is a satin finish and my OO-18 is nitro gloss. Based on my knowledge and experience, I’m not convinced satin resonate’s better at all. Just my opinion. To each his own, I just don’t like to speculate. Great video and thanks.

With you would do the 30’s faded j35, and pin down exactly hat brace pattern was used in it, Still unclear about this, Gibsons web sight it seems they are all the same in faded. Yet some say it’s the wider brace pattern as used in the used the ej? And the previous j35.

Sounds like a J-45, a bit more woody. Huge step up from the G45 or J-45 Studio and at about $400 less than the gloss J-45 Standard... Hard case, LR Baggs pickup and Bone nut and saddle... Checks all the boxes. If I were buying a new J-45, the 50's faded is the one I'd go with.
