This video is very satisfying to watch Doug. You have a very creative and clever way of coming up with solutions like your espresso machine, your PVC bending / steaming tube, and using veneer in layers. That guitar has a gorgeous coffee burst and you made it look like it just came from Gibson. Very nice job.

Gibson uses veneer and lots of it...Gibson's semi-hollowbodies like the ES-335 and ES-339 have tops and backs constructed of layers (either 3 or 4) of maple veneer. My understanding is that the veneers are assembled in successive cross-grain layers with the top layer having its grain longitudinal to the length of the guitar. The tops and backs are approximately 1/4" in thickness after layup.
@dougmaccormack9485

Yes that is true. This model and many others have laminated front and backs. They form them in a high pressure mold.

My first good guitar was a 330 and I also had a nice Cherry finish one. I totally love these guitars so I was truly shocked to see what somebody had done to the shape of the instrument! Why? You did a fantastic resto job on it BTW! I think way back the 330 was not highly valued and so were often treated badly but these days everyone knows how good they are!
