Hey Benny, hope your holidays were the best. I got to say that I'm thankful that I don't care for beat up guitars! I love my guitars to shine & show their beauty. Also the cost is just too much! I am very fortunate to have 2 Custom Shop Gibson's. One is a 1960 reissue Les Paul, and the other is a 1959 reissue ES-335. Since they are reissues & VOS, they don't quite have the spit & polish as a new Gibson Les Paul Standard. That's as far as I'll go, VOS. So, since I don't like my brand new guitars beat up, I saved money! Right? That's what I told my wife anyway. I'll say that I also love those Custombusters, they have a beautiful tone! They aren't my favorites, but they are up there on my list of favorite humbucker's. Alright Benny, good video! Sam Ash is a great partner to have. Look forward to the next video. See ya!

Hi Benny, that is a pretty sweet R8. With all that discussion about using unpotted pickups, did you notice any issues when using high gain/volume while testing out the guitar? I was also wondering, with all the awesome, and expensive, guitars you have, do you have a value cap for taking them out gigging? I've heard of artists who have Les Paul customs, but only use them for studio work, and take Epiphones out to gigs in case their gear gets damaged or stolen. Then there's artists like Lori S who take their 70's LP custom out on the road everywhere. I guess my question is, in your opinion, at what point is a guitar too valuable to gig?
@TheNeuroticGuitarist
9 ай бұрын
I didn't have any issues playing at high gain but I also didn't play super loud. I imagine that becomes a bigger issue when you're playing gig volume and having RAGING distortion. I haven't really had too many issues with microphonic pickups. Paul's 86 in the video gets a little microphonic but I actually like what it does, but didn't encounter it at all for this demo. As far as gigs, that's a good one. Back in the day I'd take my prs dragon 3 to gigs because I was a psycho, but I had a VHT head taken at a gig ($4500) and that was kinda the first wakeup call not to bring your best shit to a gig. Now I almost NEVER play out so it really isn't an issue, I don't have any desire. That said, it's up to you, but towards the end of my gigging I had specific guitars I'd take live that were awesome but less expensive for whatever reason. Like a prs custom but with changed pickups or my les paul w a headstock break. It comes down to what you're comfortable with, but if you're playing the local bar I wouldn't be bringing out my 70s les paul custom. That's just me, but it's whatever you feel comfortable playing and having to babysit at a gig.

@@TheNeuroticGuitarist yep. I've had 3 cherry ones too. But if you saw my Southern Fade you'd shit. It's the best Epiphone '59 I've seen yet. Seen probably a couple hundred. Worth $799.

I agree 💯 buying a guitar that someone made to look like they play gigs every day is lame as fu.k. If I'm gonna pay 6 thousand bucks for a guitar it better be brand spanking new with no dings or scratches.

@@TheNeuroticGuitarist that's what pisses me off about Gibson. They could make a standard sound like that but they wanna make ya think that the aging is responsible for the sound, you know it doesn't, it's just things they should do on every guitar they make like, the pickups, the precise cutting of the nut, the placement of the bridge n tailpiece, and cutting and leveling of the frets, why should we pay 4 thousand more then the regular price of a les paul standard to get that type of quality. I don't know if you get to keep that guitar but it does sound sweet

Fake aged guitars are for fake players. I want a new guitar to look new. Some of these thrashed guitar lovers, should buy new cars already beaten up. No… they say… These people are wannabes that want to make others think, that they have real bursts.
