I was part of the design team for the GOTW program. This model was specifically brought up by Henry, the pres of Gibson. When we launched the original as part of the GOTW program, the reverse V was the first to "sell out" at the NAMM show. My memory tells me that they sounded GREAT! The 2nd run came in q4 of that year because of the re-sale value on Ebay.

Hi Kevin, I’m an aspiring product designer who would love to specialize on guitar design. I wanted to ask you, how did you manage to apply to work for Gibson? It would be a dream of mine to work for a guitar company like Gibson of Fender.
@boblabahh4893
Жыл бұрын
@@kebab_boi Every Gibson designer has a degree form Case Western Reserve Universtiy. So start there. Then they require 4-5 years of experience with smaller makers, right now Indonesia is a great place for luthier internships. After those years they like someone with a specialty in colors (yeah it’s a real thing). An associates degree is fine here. The application process requires something like a portfolio. So send them 2-3 guitars as examples, almost no one gets these back which is kind of lame. Then you fight against the others for interviews, it’s best to be aggressive with calls and e-mails to get noticed a bit. Anyway. Good luck hope to meet you here one day.

Salutations Austin! It’s too bad that they just didn’t use the standard Flying V headstock, which, in my opinion could not be improved upon. Of course an Explorer headstock would have been the next most practical design from Gibson, on such a guitar. Unfortunately, Gibson chose the least practical design, much like the Moderne headstock. It sounds great though. And it was awesome that you collaborated on this video, an occasional guest star is great to keep us all on our toes. Thank you for posting these videos! Please have an excellent and awesome day! ☀️✨

Looks less like a mirror reversal of the V than it does the original Explorer, the Futura, with the rear fin pointing in the wrong direction. Wonder whom else can see that. Rosewood vs Ebony fret boards? Which ever had a finer grain, and was stronger. You can pretty much stain them to be similar in color, but the strength. Ebony is more expensive, and I am a quantity collector ( 9+ ) not so much high end. (2 Gibson, 1 Epi, 1 tach, 5 Yamahas. ) ( wait - 2 more Yamahas in the trunk ) My ultra secret? Red oil furniture polish on the fret board, and yellow oil on the body. Always wipe with cloth before and after playing. Other secret? folded double paper towels, over and under the strings, at the nut and the bridge. String keepers.

Contoured body, slim neck, 6-position pickup selector with a "chicken head" knob...the guitar is just comfortable and a pleasure to play. I keep pestering 5 Watt World to do a story on the L6-S...maybe you can beat him to it.
