What a treat to watch you work, this is marvellous! And yes I remember my mom and the paste wax on the hardwood floors, the lovely rich scent of wax, watching her on hands and knees with the razor scraper working over a spot we had messed up somehow or other. Perhaps by the revered piano or where we would stand in front of of the old radio, no TV then! In my earliest memories she taught me about using tools even before Dad did. Fix it, save it, make it right, don't ruin it. Words they gave me to build a life and raise a family with my own trade. The honour of good work goes back and forward into generations and your videos are a joyful experience!

BTW: The average watch time on this video is 11/ 12 minutes. That means that one of the most important tips 13:05 -15:05 ... in this video is being completely missed, by the majority of viewers. That is why ( in most cases ) I try to keep the video lengths down to 3 or 4 minutes. It is sad ( fact ) that the attention span of the human race has been reduced to ( read "The Shallows" by Prof Carr ) a few ( 1-3 ) minutes at best.

I cannot believe I see a thumbs down on this video? Apparently that person has never played a guitar you set up Michael or they have tone deaf ears. You can clearly hear that guitar is in tune all over the neck since your tweaked it!

That's OK Jody ... there are always trolls out there who have nothing better to do .... if they have a video to show me with a guitar that is more in tune than this .... I'm all ears .... and will be happy to post it.

Great craftsman! Little more complicated then I expected to get that nut out. Wish you was local.

I get a lot of guitars shipped up from the US. Jody ( Reading PA. ) just picked up the 11 guitars that he dropped off in October. In his case; to ship 11 guitars .... it was cheaper and easier to drive the 500 miles to drop em' off and then he came back a couple of weeks ago to round em' up and take them home. Max is shipping his guitar up from San Fransico ... when the weather breaks in March / April.

@@StringTechWorkstations My melody maker might be worth shipping, but it's fine. I have a cheap acoustic that was my first acoustic that came new with problems. I didn't know much when I chose it. Seemed good enough from reviews, even video reviews. It's a Luna grand mahogany with cutaway.Full mahogany body and neck. Structurally good, sounds great. The fret board has irregularities it in. #1 string 12th fret-15th was the same note. So I filed them down until each fret struct it's separate note. Couple other spots I found had to be filed too. I kinda feel sorry for the guitar. It looks really good and sounds really good, it wants to be a decent player. It can't help where it came from lol. Being my first, I'd like to have that fret board corrected. If some one could remove the frets I could fix the irregularities. I own a 22 year old refinishing company. Just never worked on guitars before. There is binding stopping me from trying to remove frets my self. If you were local I could have you do it, or at least remove and put back frets. The other issue is the finish flaking off every since day 1. First time I tuned it my fingernail scrapped finish off the head. Then it came off with just rubbing my thumb on the neck. I can fix that problem easy. Poor mistake on the finishers part. I was going to use it for target practice or something. But now I feel sorry for it. Still my first Sorry about the long story

Pay special attention to 14:25-15:15 on this video. If you miss this one step; your guitar will NOT play in tune. Cheers, MMcC

I have a quick question please...Which compensating nut do you recommend for a new Gibson Les Paul Classic? Mind you, the guitar seems to stay in tune, but it does go out as usual with all Les Pauls on the D, the G and the B strings. Would swaping the nut out of there make it rock solid? OR....would a roller type bridge help to get it there completely? I found this roller bridge in Germany and it looks pretty good but it's not cheap. No it's not a Schaller either. The company is called ABM and the model is the Roller Bridge 2400n-RO N. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The compensated nut is the first move to make. I compensate the nut for the exact gauge of strings / scale length / and tuning. Once this is done ... the bridge change will be unnecessary.

@@StringTechWorkstations Okay, good! Thanks! Now I won't have to spend alot more dough on this Les Paul. Is there a brand you recommend for the compensated nut? Or do you make them yourself?

@@joszefrviz398 I have never used any "brand" of compensated nut. I have always made my own .... specific to each guitar ( scale length / tuning / string gauge / action preference etc .. ).
