I was hookin' up the east side of Oaktown with 'whatever' but my 'connects' got me and my boys into front row (Emeryville Kindels, gone now) with about 30 honeys waitin' for him to finish the set. Incredible band, incredible homey who saw my crew and knew we were 'ballin' back in the day. Took his set longer just for us... young ballers!!!! Will never forget him.

I feel so privileged that I grew up in an era that had such a beautiful mind as Gil Scott Heron.........My children grew up listening to his music because I did not want them to grow up ignorant of this rich history...........his music will live on forever.......

Robert Gordon (The Secretary of Entertainment) on bass!! Easily in the Larry Graham category for Funk-a-liciousness! I mean Damn! GSH was a force and The Rap/Hip Hop Tree is grown from Gil's roots...he was doing it before anyone else."B-Movie" is all the proof you need...

this song will always bring back my happiest times from high school. im in my senior year in turkey and soon ill be gratuated. my favourite memories from my school are the ones where i was in art class and i used to play that song while we were doing our paintings and everyone in the class was obsessed with angel dust. sometimes my friends were coming up to me and telling me that our teacher always plays this song and we all ended up becoming obsessed with this masterpiece.

Can anybody tell me where this was filmed and how to get a copy of this concert? This looks like the concert I attended in Washington D.C.in 1982 that was filmed for the BBC. I was a twenty year old political activis.from the Mid-West at the time. There were two identical sets. It was a night of magic

@miamiwax . It's a shame that people focus on his tabloid coverage instead of his music when his music is so innovative and complex. "How we stop the black panthers? Ronald Reagan cooked up an answer You hear that? What Gil Scott was hearin When our heroes and heroines got hooked on heroin. Crack raised the murder rate in DC and Maryland We invested in that it's like we got Merril-Lynched And we been hangin from the same tree ever since Sometimes I feel the music is the only medicine"

If I recall right, it was 1972 or 73 on the northside of Chicago at a club called Ratso's. We got there about 9:30 for the second show; I am not lying, the line for tickets outside the joint was at least six blocks!! Fortunately we had tickets. The Midnight Band got down that night. We love you Gil

Gil is (was) myu favorite poet/musician amongst some stiff competition....There will be other prophets and magicians to come but the loss of this one will leave us with a universe to look at through his eyes. I lived the sixties, including tours in the Nam and survived. Gil will alweays be present in my life, my thoughts and my perspective on life.

I know your comment is almost a decade old, but I'm 99% positive that's an Alembic. Gerry Garcia was known for that brand, and Michael 'Kidd Funkadelic' Hampton also played Alembic in the 70s.
