it‘s about „Gilberte of Courgenay“ a girl that works at a local restaurant as a waitress. Every soldier knows her for helping with everything and being the nice person she is.. and for being pretty of course. So they wrote her a song. And that‘s it :)

Translation here you go, some translations are not the best, because it's poetic in Swiss German and it doesn't work in English sadly. so I didn't know if I should go for the poetic translation or the accurate translation of what it actually means. I tried my best. The "German" part is sung in a Swiss dialect, which is not the same as standard German. it's older, and kinda a mix between 1500's German and 1800's German. from Swiss German close to Porrentruy in the Jura ((Porrentruy: place in German Pruntrut) Jura =Swiss region & mountain chain) there an innkeeper owns a house there a Girl looks out the window three times an hour and when you ask the soldiers who is the girl though then every Swiss boy's heart and leg gets raised (lit. lifted/beats higher) From French It is the little Gilberte Gilbert' of Courgenay (place where her family had the restaurant) she knows three hundred thousand soldiers and all the officers It is the little Gilberte Gilbert' of Courgenay one knows her in all of Switzerland and the whole army from Swiss German may it be a trumpeter may it be a tambour player may it be a simple soldier from the Corporal to the Lieutenant up to the mayor who has them all together by the Zipfel and ear (means who pulls all the strings, holds sway: Zipfel is the end of a cap, search for Zipfelmütze, there is no perfect word in English.) From French It is the little Gilberte Gilbert' of Courgenay she knows three hundred thousand soldiers and all the officers It is the little Gilberte Gilbert' of Courgenay she now cries for all of Switzerland and the whole army From Swiss German 3 and when you ask: what in the devil is it? Is she this beautiful? Lord no, In Switzerland I've seen many thousand more beautiful (than her) nobody knows exactly, what it is, is it the eyes or shoe (probably an old saying, which I don't know its meaning am) but this doesn't matter, one gets crazy and calls out to one another From French It is the little Gilberte Gilbert' of Courgenay she knows three hundred thousand soldiers and all the officers It is the little Gilberte Gilbert' of Courgenay one knows her in all of Switzerland and the whole army (as a institution) 4 From Swiss German and would they give me a regiment I'd say " Oh Herrje" (Lord, no, lit.Oh God no, ) were I only Lieutenant, and just in Courgenay what's it worth all these officers and more than thousand men I have to godbedamned have something else completely! From French It is the little Gilberte Gilbert' of Courgenay she knows three hundred thousand soldiers and all the officers It is the little Gilberte Gilbert' of Courgenay one knows her in all of Switzerland and the whole army 5 From Swiss German And when the war's finished (other versions say service) and (when) everyone goes back home and (when) the inkeeperess's house empty is at its street who rinses the window's eyes out (eyes, poetic for windowglass here) and stares into the Ajoie (name of this specific region) and three hundred thousand soldiers? From French It is the little Gilberte Gilbert' of Courgenay she knows three hundred thousand soldiers and all the officers It is the little Gilberte Gilbert' of Courgenay one knows her in all of Switzerland and the whole army

aha, du bist gebildet? so how many years have you spent in school to bully people with literature problems? On the other hand I totally agree with you. Nobody can turn the wheel back but we are smart enough today not to make the same mistake again. I hope you are a good enough genius yourself to help identify the currant situation and change it to the better? Cheers, mate
