I like the same foot/same shoulder concept as that is rugby style tackling. It is important part of being a shoulder leverage tackling team. Only concern that I have is that some of these tackles still have the head across the ball carrier and not to the back side, thus putting the tacklers head in a dangerous position. The rugby style tackling focuses solely on tracking the near hip, power step to get in close to ball carrier with same foot/same shoulder, shoot arms to attack outside knee, keep head up and to the backside of the ball carrier at ALL times. Player must then wrap up the knees and take to ground.

North Pitt United Rugby Club head goes across the chest for leverage you either give a ride or receive a ride there is no middle ground. If you put your head on the back of ball carrier your defender is going for a ride. You can get away with that technique on sideline tackle maybe.

Many tackle rings out there, home versions as well. The one shown and one made by Rhino are great quality. I coach youth and the kids love the heavier product better. Truer shoulder hit, they learn how to generate their own power. Works in the wind. Heads up tackling is good, head out better. My kids are generally smaller than our opponents and we are one of the best tackling team. Highly recommend.

Use an intertube, not a fancy, but a hell of a lot cheaper and still gets the job done. Go Cats.

Why are they diving? What about heads up tackling?

The idea with this tackling technique is that the head is completely out of the tackle, and shoulders are used as the main contact area. Rugby has been doing this for years and teams like the Seahawks are implementing these techniques very successfully. Heads up still involves the head hitting the ball carrier, which is still a risk for head injury.

@@robrathbun1670 that explains why we see these defenses give 30 or more points a game and over 500 yards total offense.

Head placement is wrong & the ring do not emphasize running through ball carrier. All that leaving your feet & diving is no good!

@@ianstaana6425 Hi, I'm actually the inventor of this product. I invented it in 2009 in Australia. The head position is incorrect. Putting your head at the front of the ring when it is rolling across you, is like putting your head where the runner's knees will be lifting...THE worse place to put your head. If we did this in rugby, there would be a high chance of concussion. The tackler should be targeting the "back" of the ring, as if to put their head on the butt cheek of the runner. Cheers. James

James, football tackling is a bit different as every yard counts more so than in rugby and the helmet is very protective (but not completely) from a ball carrier's knee striking them. Most of the tackles require the tackler to get his body (greater mass) across the ball carrier to stop the momentum of the ball carrier. A "cheek to cheek" tackle often doesn't allow the tackler to have as much mass and therefore force to actually stop the runner resulting in a broken tackle. Even if the ball carrier overpowers the tackler the ball carrier is likely to fall over the tackler but by aiming at the nearside hip/leg the ball carrier can more easily overpower the tackler and break the tackle without falling over the tackler. But yes James I can attest that in rugby this would be poor form as I once took a kneecap to the temple which knocked me unconscious in a match. ps, brillant invention!

@@macgordon5582 I've got another one.... Just patented it in Australia and NZ. You couldn't tell me who might be a good company to deal with in The States to commericalise it? Are there many rugby equipment suppliers in The States? Thanks. James

This is why defense is dead in college football. This is why defenses are giving up more than 35 points a game and giving up way over 400 yards a game.

First part shown was not good for today's tackling technique. Player's head was on the wrong side of the tackle. Head is always to the butt side off the ball carrier
