At 2:35 you were correct the first time when pointing out your neck pickup. I know I'm being knit-picky, but thought I'd bring it up before I said thank you Mike, good info to know. Great video.

I liked the switch because I don't like push-pull switches. But I should've gone with a push - push control knob or a button. That's the best solution in my opinion.

I prefer a push pull pot instead of the micro toggle. I didnt need to drill a hole in the scratchplate and you cant tell you've done the mod either, but u get the same effect.

Thanks for the tip. I'm just putting together a work shop in the barn and collecting tools. Guess those will be added to my list. You can use a push-pull pot ofcourse. I think I will locate a little push button and loose the switch..

You should! But remember you can do it in other ways like using a push pull pot or a push push switch. That way you don't have to make a hole in the pickguard. 50 years ago everything was switches and I'm kinda old school.

I want to do this, but connect the mini toggle to the middle pickup. Swap the 5 way switch for a 3 way so I never accidentally find myself in position 2 or 4, or accidental move too far when I try to find position 2 and 4 because a 3 way locks into its positions better than a 5 way. You can still get the outside 2 by default with the middle pickup switched off and then toggle the middle one on and get all 3

I'm not a huge fan of the 5 way either. Position fussing all the time. Sounds like a good way to deal with it. Thanks for sharing!

That's interesting.....I've been making a similar mod to my Strats since the 80's but my switch turns on the Bridge in the 3,4 and 5 positions. I wonder if it makes a difference to the sound? I didn't do this because of Gilmour, only because I realized that the bridge was unused after the 2nd position and I wanted to use it in all positions.

In the third position with the Switch on I hear a difference in the sound as if they were the pickups in push-pull is this normal?
@TheGospelGuitarist

Why would you turn it on when the 4th position does that same combination of neck and middle? No push-pull on my guitar so I can't address that issue, I don't know what the push-pull is doing. The mod is to address having the neck and bridge on together. Other combinations are already covered with stock wiring.
@Homestudiosimplifed

Couldn't you wire it to the bridge and turn it on in the first position? This would just be the reverse of what you've done right?

@@Ottophil True, but this is my dream guitar that I have lovingly built from a pickup and an idea over a year ago so I am nearing the 98% completion section and it is just dragging on. @@TheGospelGuitarist If you use a on-on-on switch for each humbucker, you can wire it to be split / single coil, series and parallel. Cover all three bases with the one switch. Just done the mod on my H-H Strat, sounds fantastic, you can get some really cool and useful tones.
