@@user-fm6tf2tv3w Sushi is originally from South East Asia. But when we refer today's Sushi, we think of Japanese one. Culture is flexible. Koreans made seaweed paper one century earlier than Japanese did. They already ate rice and seaweed paper. Japanese made Futomaki with these ingredient. And Koreans were inspired by Futomaki, and they made Kimbap. So yes, it is Korean. Like Ramen is originally Chinese Japanese food. Since Japan is an island country, they don't have original cuisine. They learned other cuisines and transformed into their way. In your logic, Ramen is Japanese style Lamien (Chinese). Takoyaki is Japanese style Arbleskiver (Danish) Yakiniku is Japanese style Bulgogi (Korean). Tonkatsu is Japanese style Schitzel (German)... 😅
@user-fm6tf2tv3w

@@cookiemonxchu The origin of other Asian countries was just fermented fish. The purpose of cooking is completely different from sushi. Koreans who hate to lose say that it originated in China and Southeast Asia, but most Chinese and Southeast Asians say they don't know lol And I don't hold the Southeast Asian. They're just put fermented fish on top of the rice. Sushi completely originated in Japan. And the origin up to thousands of years ago is not clear. Japanese people told Korea how to make seaweed and how to eat it. The seaweed culture that began during the Korean rule was because Japanese taught how to make seaweed with the types of seaweed that can be collected in Korea. And there were no thick rolls in Korea at that time. It's happened in the past 10 years. He probably imitated Sukeroku Sushi sold in Japanese supermarkets. There is no reason to be original just by changing the contents and taste a little without many years of research. It's not gimbap,It's Korean Sukeroku. It's cowardly to change the name to something completely different and hide the copied source. There is no end to starting to talk about the origin of ingredients. Lol If you say that, the continents were connected a long time ago, so wheat dishes, rice dishes, meat and fish, and the cuisine of any country will be in the same category as "humanity" lol Takoyaki, Yakiniku, Tonkatsu, All of them were introduced to Japan decades ago and developed independently. From the ingredients to the cooking method, the taste, all are completely different from the original. And the taste is the best in the world. The most delicious country in the world is praised for its achievements. It is praised that I loved the ingredients and cooking for many years. Japan, which has made the cuisine introduced from all over the world unique to Japan for decades and makes the taste the best in the world, Korea steals the finished food in the neighboring country of Japan in one day, and degrades the cuisine by changing the taste and name. If you think these two countries are the same, it's a big mistake.

Even Japan and Korea recognize gimbap and makizushi to be separate things. While it’s possible gimbap as we know it arose out of war-time and post-war cultural exchange, Korea has had a tradition of wrapping rice and banchan in seaweed since at least 19th century. There’s even a theory that precursors of gimbap from the Korean Baekje kingdom (18 BCE to 600 CE) influenced the invention of norimaki. All in all, it’s not a surprise that similar foods arose in countries that are so close to one another and have enjoyed trading and diplomatic relationships for centuries.

I like both 😊 Every cuisine has their own special taste and style and I appreciate that, everyone to their own. I can't stand comparison or arguing about the origin of a food. Just don't play along with internet trolls you're wasting your energy, just stand firm in your race and culture and be proud of it.

No, it's Japanese food. Kanikama(Imitation Crab Sticks), Dashimaki Tamago (Japanese Rolled Omelette), Takuan (Japanese Yellow Pickled Radish) and Kanpyo were born in Japan It's food. It is not well known overseas, but in addition to them, Sukeroku Sushi is a roll of cucumbers, carrots, etc. wrapped with rice and seaweed. Koreans are shallowly knowledgeable, so they say that there is only one kind of Japanese, whether it is rice balls or sushi rolls, but it's different. Rice balls with half wrapped seaweed, rice balls all wrapped in seaweed, Sushi rolls with only fish, sushi rolls with vegetables, All of them have existed for about 300 years. Rice balls and sushi rolls that are in the same shape as today have been sold at restaurants for decades in Japan. Gimbap, triangle gimbap, is a mistake. Korean-style sushi roll and Korean-style rice balls are the correct answer.

I live in new zealand, after school my korean friends mom used to make us Kimbap, mandu and then for dinner pizza hut lol. I used to spend so much time at his house because of it. Then in the morning she would make crazy thick pancakes in an electric wok, pork sausages that had no right being that tasty, ham steaks and pickled veges. It confused me as a kid although it was delicious. I miss it soo much. Perfect food imo. Thank you Mrs Cho, ily

People have to stop thinking everything that looks similar to sushi is Japanese. Kimbap might have its origins in a Japanese dish but it's not Japanese, it was born in Korea so it's Korean. There are also similar dishes in China. Even tough they're similar they're completely different. The so called "original" one is Japanese but the ones that developed from it aren't. My country (Portugal) introduced lots of dishes to other countries but those same dishes suffered changes and originated other traditional dishes. Those dishes aren't Portuguese, only the ones who were introduced are. It makes no sense to say all the dishes that developed from the "original" dish are from the original's country when they were developed in other countries.

It’s obvious kimbap is inspired by American/japanese sushi. So no need to get salty about it really. There is islander sushi roll with the spam pickled diakon radish eggs cucumbers carrots sesame oil as well, that koreans call kimbap too but in the islands they just call it spam roll. So why koreans claiming that kind of sushi roll kimbap? Dont say spam originated from Korea
@Azusashusband
Жыл бұрын
@Choux ᪥ and by that logic sushi comes from china which has a really ancient seaweed roll dating back to those ancient times
@OdetteEgg
11 ай бұрын
@@choux7746no way you just added “American” to the mix here for kimbap “inspiration” lmfao. Korea and Japan have been their own separate nations for a long time (in general, yes, but:), and both can use similar ingredients to make similar-ish foods given their proximity to each other and both to the sea, irregardless of who’s “written down to have done it ‘first’” or wtvr; its literally been YEARS since the first rice with seaweed wrapped dish ever came out and there’s been a clear branching since of how these “roll type dishes” have been made with several different components and the like. (Spam here is just another ingredient that can fall under “what they decide to put in a dish type” since cuisine can adapt to include more modern ingredients, but one extra ingredient like spam doesn’t make up the whole identity of the dish it’s in etc) If you really can’t tell the difference between the types I’d say you should get yourself to try more variants of both styles several more times with an open mind to get a real understanding of their differences before just simply generalizing an iconic Korean variant of a “bite sized, easy ‘to-go’” meal with rice as “Japanese” and taking away the aspect of cultural identity and merit to kimbap that is more than just some “forever subset of a once briefly colonized nation” or something else belittling and rude like that to both Asian nations with their own branches of food and other cultural aspects.
