He uses no reference, does no base sketch, no skeleton, no gesture no framework for what he's about to make... he just paints... in perfect perspective. This man's artist level is over 9000!

+Analog Puppet You're right on all points. Thing is, he's put more hours into drawing than most of us, and really knows his references off by heart. It's why he doesn't need references, and why he doesn't need to have a skeleton or guide lines. He is the epitome of artistic ability in his field.

No quality? His drawings are done in one take, in another words he draws whatever is in his mind without second thought. It's as natural as he gets and that's quality.

It isn't that hard to draw like Kim Jung Gi. You just have to be born with an insane amount of drawing talent, recognize that fact early in life, and then completely dedicate yourself for decades to mastering every aspect of your ability to render images until you can perfectly visualize any structure, device, animal, plant, human, or imaginary creature in any possible position and from every possible angle, and can create that image seamlessly within a complex, multi-layered scene from any perspective without making even the slightest mistake while using a very sensitive drawing instrument. I don't know why people make it sound so difficult.

Possessing a visual vocabulary so vast...it isn't imaginable until you actually try to build it. It's like a combination of various sets of objects, and in one of his videos he clearly said, draw not what you see but what you have seen, and I've come to realise that means that you need to study ever edge, curve, fold, contour, every nook and cranny of the object before you can draw it from memory because once you do, you literally have an imaginary 3D hologram of it floating in your head, ready to be projected through your pen. He developed an instict for it at a young age, which gave him this little hack for drawing from memory, allowing him to combine, break apart and redesign any object he has fully visually registered. Once I think of it this way, it actually sounds near impossible, but understandable, and hence doable.
@nikolastesla9907
6 ай бұрын
I doubt it. It’s no visual library that you build. You do not build it from the outside world, you practice and refine your own filter, your own inner perception and style. People who study from nature end up with a hyperrealistic skill that is very limited in objects an scope of movement s. If you want to be capable to draw a huge amount of things, you ought to practice without reference and without studying from nature. Painting is not like science where ppl collect data, it’s rather like speaking a native language, you start instinctively picking sounds and then refining your own sounds and style of speech until you are capable of great oratory. It’s awkward for a native speaker to collect data on how people speak through observation and mimicking the sounds of others. It just becomes forced and limited to specific contexts in the city for example. If you interact and let it happen through intuitive practice, it’s likely to go and sound native like and gets a special style to it.
