Another quality video. Thanks for showing those "old school" tools to a new generation of bushcrafters!

I bought a set of these after the first time I watched this. I used them on mahogany with no trouble at all! Gimlets are awesome 👍

Cool video. I wonder how a gimlet will work for tapping a birch tree

They came into use in year 1300. Back before they had electric drills. 😉

When I'm using my drill I put a board on the backside of the piece I'm workin on to avoid a messy hole on the back of my work. I wonder if it would work with a gimlet as well? this might save you from having to turn the piece over and drill from the back side?

There has to be a way to make one of these with a dremel/file from a screw or with a tap-n-die set. I would rather carry an Awl though.

Don’t know that I have seen one of those. Will be on the lookout now. Random question: the rain jacket you were wearing on Alone, was that oilcloth?

Neat tool - noticed you had injured your thumb in the video. Hope not too serious. Great video as always. Was it the Enkay grimlet set on amazon or another brand?
