Ginger officinale is a perennial monocot plant. The stem is run under the soil and becomes swellen. It stores reserved food material as tuber. The underground modified stem in Ginger is called as Rhizome. Rhizome is the modification of stem not a root. The stems only posted scale leaves, nodes internodes and Yong buds. But roots commonly does not have nodes and internodes. So Rhizome is considered as the modification of underground Stem. The Rhizome helps the plant for vegetative reproduction during unfavorable conditions.
