Seeing all these ratty FB rx7’s is honestly pretty cool. The feeling all these cars give off is quite unique, very grassroots

This really is very low budget racing. it makes it fun for everyone without worrying about going broke while doing it.

Appreciate the videos man. Currently I track a turbo e-50 powered miata that is all aero'd out. Been debating building a full tracked out 3rd gen mr2. The 2AR info is super helpful and is making me consider that swap.

battle at 8 mins looks frustrating but fun. You make gaps for people who are following to keep up with you but you know if they go ahead they will just hold you up

Yeah, that Taurus SHO (gray with red front bumper) really liked to harass my bumper but it would slow down 4-5 seconds a lap if i let him pass. I had him on my bumper for several hours over the weekend and yeah it was a bit stressful. But it was also a lot of fun watching them overdrive the car and almost bin it several times just trying to keep up.

I love lemons, but I find it hard to believe a lot of these cars started as a “$500” car
@FrankensteinMotorworks
Жыл бұрын
A few things to keep in mind, first is that the $500 budget does not cover the whole car, only the chassis, suspension, engine and transmission. Also, anything you can sell from it can come off of the purchase price. So if you manage to sell $1000 worth of interior bits you now have $1500 allowed in your original purchase. This makes it a bit interesting since you'll find that sometimes a car worth $3-5k is actually easier to get to a $500 budget than a $1000 car that has parts that nobody wants. All the safety stuff, brakes, wheels, exhaust, fuel system and whatnot is all budget exempt. The other huge thing to consider is that lemons started in 2006. Some of the cars here are expensive now but have been in the series for a long time and were purchased at their low point. The cash for clunkers program which raised the prices of used cars everywhere did not happen until 2009 so there were many years possible before that. Also, even without considering the date it was purchased, a lot of cars that are bought for lemons are actually bought as non running cars. a car with a blown engine or transmission is dramatically cheaper than a running car you would see for sale. A "$500" car is really a $5000 with creative accounting and working through the rules. once you add all the safety equipment you end up somewhere between $8000 and $12000 which is still a dirt cheap race car.

@FrankensteinMotorworks
2 жыл бұрын
That blue MKI is amazing. It looks generally stock and they came in 7th place. As for the cheez-it box, i should have flipped it the other way. It was a hot day and the gauge cluster was overheating and this was just some quick thinking to resolve that issue. but the camera's angle made it catch the reflection. from the driver's angle you can't even see the box or the reflection.

Keep in mind this is 24hours of lemons, much of this is about being as ridiculous as possible. Most of these wings including the one on my car are mostly just for show.

The MR-S seems much more predictable than my SW20. I think my car would step out if I cornered that hard.
@FrankensteinMotorworks

@@chainsawcharl1e677 The MR2 Spyder's suspension looks a whole lot like the AW11 and the SW20 but now that i've raced all three i 100% believe that it is simply a much better starting point for a race car. It responds really well to simple modifications and can be made to easily pull 1.5g's on flat corners on modern 200tw tires. And the best part is it can do this for hours on end without killing the tires because the car is so light.

@FrankensteinMotorworks

That's a Taurus SHO that has been tweaked to make about 240whp and based on their acceleration it has a lot of weight reduction also. They were overdriving it a bit, they did end up getting black flagged quite a bit but when it did hang in there it was a damn fast car. You can get a better view of it right at the beginning, it's the car immediately in front of me when the green flag drops and i pass it between corner 2 & 3
