And didn’t the Part 6 anime end a bit after Part 8 of the manga finally wrapped up? Right now it’s up in the air as to if they’ll do Part 7. Not only would animating all the horses be a big undertaking, if they finish it and manage to do Part 8 as well, there’s great risk of arriving at Part 9 before the manga is even halfway done.

I didn't even know people don't know about fillers. Back in the day when Naruro's just the first half was coming out it was literal hell to see a clear filler and know that okay, 20 more episodes of this incoming before we get into the plot again. Me hating fillers so much is actually the main-reason I won't anymore really watch any other anime than 1-2 season mini-series'es. They have way better better quality anyway since high end studios don't like to stick to a project for years (they might make the first season of some show and hand it over to another studio). But with Got they started to diverge in S05 already from the books even tho there was some material they could've still used, more or less half of that season is still from the books and s06 isn't at all anymore. When the show started Martin said he will finish the books before it comes to that but, well he is still in the same place he was when the show started. I tought already in s05 it was showing heavily it wasn't from the books, like a lot less intelligent dialogue and more set-pieces like the dragons when Dany is tried to be assasinated in the arena. The show hadn't really got to use the dragons in action much as an adults before that so it just felt like a weak fluff ending to a setted up plot with, yaaay dragons in action. S08 is whole another story all together and it has a lot to do D&D getting deal to make Star Wars movie (and I think they were heavy on setting up that project while insisting on writing Game of Thrones just by themselves).

Gintama surprisingly has very little filler episodes even though you expect for it to have a ton cause its the perfect format to have them. The show doesn't follow any singular plotline, each episode starts and ends its own storyline, rarely spanning 2 or more episodes. So it would've been super easy to put in fillers without having to worry about breaking up the plot progression.

@TheWeeaboo but Sasuke had a lot of tools at his disposal to compensate for his lack of power. At first the cursed seal of heaven, which carried him through regular Naruto after the first Chunin exams and made him a decent Uchiha, but still weaker than Itachi. He then upgrades the seal and absorbs Orochimaru to be on a similar level to an extremely weakened and nearly blind Itachi, before he ultimately takes Itachi's eyes (the ultimate power boost that only Madara achieved before) as well as several white Zetsus to be able to take on the Kages. Against Kabuto it was Itachi who dominated the fight, and only when he got the Rinnegan gifted by the Sage of the Six Paths did he actually surpass Itachi. So while Sasuke was always a weak Uchiha he got access to a multitude of tools and support that no other Uchiha had.

@TheWeeaboo the whole thing with naruto doesn't sit right with me either, his entire power progression is really janky. Starts of lame, basically spamming shadow clone over and over. Took i think a hundred or so episode for him to learn something decently good (rasengan) which is really slow. But then starting with the pain arc it seems like the writer gave up on trying to slowly build up his power and just buff the hell out of him as fast as possible. Hell even the sage mode was really only used once, that was against pain and rarely ever become useful in a fight again because he already got the exponentially more powerful bijuu mode not long after. And in the last arc they just straight up give him power closest to a literal godhood on a silver platter without much buildup

They could go the seasonal route, where the anime would go on a temporary hiatus after an arc, giving the manga time to go on ahead. This certainly avoids fillers and unnecessary episodes. But the seasonal route has downsides too. * Interest in the series can wane with time depending on how long the wait between seasons is. * Manga which have massive arcs like One Piece or Dragon Ball cannot adapt this approach. Seasons only last between one or two cours (tv period of about 12 weeks per cour), which arcs like Wano or Namek would definitely not be able to cram in. * A studio may not want to continue doing the anime and give it to another studio, who make it worse. * An anime can still catch up to the manga and have to wait several years to give the manga time to make new content, which will make fans impatient. * Studios can still include filler in seasonal anime, which combine the worst of both worlds. In short, seasonal anime isn’t a cure-all for every yearly anime and must be approached with just as much tact as any other yearly anime.

@Dante02d12

You're spot on. But despite its flaws, seasonal is still the best solution imo. It worked for SnK, for SAO, for Fate/Zero and many others. Honestly, I don't know why the industry waited 2010's to start using this approach widely. American series have been doing that forever and it's worked. For long-running manga, they could just decide to stop the season when they realize they're too close to the latest arc, and wait for a few years. Fairy Tail did it twice. Granted, it did have a few fillers ; but much less than if they had decided to go on without any pause. Another solution would be to just wait for the manga to be close to its end, but that would be asking for businessmen to _not_ milk popular books, and that's above their competence.
@MrPatrickbuit

@@Dante02d12 It worked for SnK in the long run, but I remember how shockingly unpopular season 2 was when it came out. It took until season 3 part 2 for it to regain its popularity.
@Modie
2 жыл бұрын
@@Dante02d12 The reason is pretty simple and that is that they feared of losing viewers. Loot at Attack on Titan as an example. Yes, it came back, but the hype around S2 wasn't really that huge. If it had released like 1 year later, the viewerbase would have been there directly. And not every series can recover like that after all. And even Attack on Titan had problems as the guys behind it wanted the Final Season to release alongside the finale of the manga instead of waiting a few months more to get it finished in a more polished way. Lastly, it also means that you lose merchandise opportunities which is even more problematic. Merchandise usually only sells when a series is airing. So if you can keep a series running, you can sell more merchandise and therefore make more money as the anime itself isn't what brings in the most money, so it doesn't matter if the show suffers in the long run.

The problem with that is that not every anime gets to work with the mangaka, so with that you're risking that you'll either change the personality of a character or tap into something that the manga plans to explore later, making an unnecessary mess Imo it's best to just go seasonal and avoid filler altogether
@jasonreed7522

The biggest issue with fleshing out characters in the "filler" is if the show forgets about all that growth as soon as it goes back to adapting the manga. Filler is in quotes because filler exists of a spectrum from pointless/detracts from the show (a lot of Naruto's latter filler) to "its not manga REEEEEE" which you would never realize is filler if you're an anime only and don't use a filler guide pointing out every episode that isn't in the manga. (Naruto had a lot of episodes like this in the beginning, but it also had a lot of time wasters like hot springs or whats under Kakashi's mask)

At the 300-ish episode mark, there's a ginpachi sensei section at the end of one particular episode where a viewer writes to them saying that the gintama movie (one that released before this point probably) showed a silent montage of Gintoki transferring Shouyo's school late in relation to Katsura and Takasugi, whereas the anime shows otherwise, with Gintoki having first met Shouyo. He then goes to explain that this is in no way due to the fact that they had no clue this would happen (because the manga hadn't gotten to that point), and that there was actually no context in the said clip (it was silent) and proceeded to add dialogue to it. The dialogue was about Gintoki shitting his pants

I say the same about FMA vs FMAB, I loved the design and story of FMA's Homunculi way more than the entire Father storyline going on in FMAB, but FMAB still had a much more wholesome ending. However filler can also result in certain characters becoming less important. Lets continue using Sailor Moon as an example. Tuxedo Mask in the manga was a legitimately interesting character that actually helped out and put in work. He also did not start out with powers and instead earned them later. However in the anime he did nothing but she show up throw a rose then disappear after pretending to help. This is because the writers of the anime didn't like him. There's also the bot of awkward writing with the 4 heavenly kings that were in their pasts lives lovers of the sailor scouts. They killed the one that was Sailor Jupiter's lover literally 2 episodes before the introduction of Sailor Jupiter herself. Needless to say the whole lovers in a past life plot never came up in the anime because of this.

@@manuelsputnik And we still didn't get a s3 even though it's been 5 years since s2 and there are 3 arcs in the manga that are completely finished. The manga is in the last arc currently but the author is taking a year long break to work on something else and the manga is coming back in May and the final fight will be starting.

Gintama fails to mention the most common reason for filler: The directors want the season finale to end on an exciting note, so they stall for time before reaching that final event.

bro this was meant for extending the run time so they can't add more things, if possible they would mention this as well

I've rewatched Gintama a few times already, but the more I watch it, the more I realize how Gintama does not give a F* about anything they say or do. Absolute madlad starting from the GOAT Hideaki Sorachi, Producer-san, Staff, and of course the fans. They all have balls of steel. 😂😂😂

nah it's just mild sarcasm and that's it.. the one that got real balls of steel is.. 1) Anime that contains underage character drinking alcohol without reasons like (they're actually a 100 y/o vampire for example) etc. 2) Incest of a sibling from the same belly 3) A human MC that can kill another human (without settings like they're actually top class assassin etc.) and still emotionally okay with it. All of this is the line they're afraid to cross for reasons

In One Piece the manga walks like a 80 year old senior with popped kneecaps while the anime walks like the 60 year old son who is slightly faster and has to stop walking alltogether for every couple steps to not leave the father in the dust
