When I started woodworking I inherited a few of my grandfathers old hand-planes. A Stanley No. 6 and a Millers Falls No. 9c. They sat around for awhile and I finally decided to try tackling a restoration.
After reading this fantastic article from Woodcraft Magazine I felt much more confident and set off.

It was not nearly as hard as I had expected it to be, however I also didn't give it a full restoration to where it looks brand new. I wanted them to still have the character of a well loved vintage tool while also being useable. I made sure the rust was cleaned up and the sole was flat but I left the parts that were missing paint, and the paint splatter that was on the handle.
