It seems the only way to get the MT on the GJ and GP Subaru Impreza in the Japanese market is to get the 114PS 1.6L FB16 engine. Here in the United States, people complain the 150PS 2.0L FB20 used in the GJ and GP Impreza and Subaru XV are too slow, but I feel the FB20 is adequate by American standards. I have a Subaru XV with the 150PS 2.0L FB20 5MT. It is not considered fast by American standards, but I still love to drive it!

That's right. In the Japanese market, people can't buy MT Impreza with the FB20. So I’m jealous of your FB20 5MT XV. I hope you enjoy it.

I enjoy my Subaru XV very much, more so than most American Subaru XV drivers. I take it light off-road driving as well as some sporty touge driving, so it gets treated a little bit like a rally car. I just found out that the new 5th generation Impreza (GT, GK) are no longer offered with the MT and can only be had with the Lineartronic CVT in the Japanese market. To my own surprise, the 5MT actually will be offered in America despite the low proportion of drivers who know how to drive an MT vehicle here in America. On a positive outlook, at least you have the final generation (4th generation in Japan's case) of the MT Impreza available :)
