The low temperatures make static electricity build rather quickly, leading the region to have an increased density of naedocytes - shockers will be encountered on most expeditions to this area, feeding on the ambient electricity. Fortunately they keep down the overall levels for everything else, right up until they weaponize it against you outright. Large pillars of granite can also be found here, similarly to many other regions - they are one of the most consistent formations on the planet, save for the compressed granite borders separating arbitrary areas. They likely came to be here the same way the minerals did, shifted and condensed as the immense amount of water melts and re-freezes, slowly letting foreign objects through. Other rocks connect down through the ground, being the heat vents themselves, which are comprised of a similar granite material. Frost bugs will not enter heat vent areas, as they appear to have sacrificed tolorance for even moderately high temperatures, though their bodies run so cold they freeze somewhat more easily than other bugs, simply unfreezing quicker as well.

The concept of Hoxxes IV being a planet built by an advanced alien civ gives me some serious Halo vibes. The Forerunners were very big into their custom designed planets, and even the way DRG's tech kinda leans could suggest that Halo was potentially a direct inspiration. If you really wanted to go down that rabbit hole, could the Rivals be related to the alien civilization? Ignoring game design quirks for a moment, it could lean that way, as we've seen only prospecting operations on Hoxxes IV, taking samples and collecting data. Odd that it has gone on for so long without greater excavation operations taking place, yes? After that, we saw the introduction of what I've come to call "Rival Nests". Turret Controllers and frequent patrols in a given sub-sector, as well as data routers likely linked to a much greater network that runs across most of the planet by now. And then the Rockpox showed up. Funny, isn't it, that R&D was so quick to discover a means to fight an otherwise novel disease that infects the stone itself? We never heard hide nor tail about what all those data cells contained. DRG's lore is riddled with room for speculation but I'm willing to a pretty coherent story can be pieced together just based off of the scattered bits and bobs we do know.

Ive just gotten a theory to what hoxxes could be historian mentioned how glacial strata could of been made by some advanced race or something else and the glyphids are very similar to ants with how they look but also especially how they act mostly that is, so if glacial strata is actually a manufactured biome instead of natural hoxxes could possibly a massive ant farm for who knows what
