Meanwhile I watched one mainstream tamil movie after a long time. And my goodness the amount of violence in it. 😢
The extent of details they go to prove a point. I mean to show kids dying in an accident ,they need to show kids dying so gruesomely ?!!
With blood and saliva oozing out of their mouths ..
& show a person being murdered -show every body part being butchered, individually.. Bones cracking Blood splashing everywhere...brain getting splattered on the wall..
There were one separate genre of these kind of movies, like Saw, hostel, sinister,I spit on your grave..
But now a days every mainstream movie it.
I know as an adult I understand it's important to get an emotional response from the audience so that they finally feel that the movie has made an impact even if there's nothing substantial in it.
So I get the psychology & the marketing behind it.
But when it's a big movie of a big star . And entire families are are going to watch it. I don't understand why people take toddlers into movie halls but.
What about teenage brains that are watching these movies
The tolerance level for violence or things that are supposed to be disgusting ...it just crosses the threshold..right?
I'm just thinking of the impact of all this on a developing brain.. What if it's an already dysregulated nervous system .. What if they have anxiety ?
I mean consciously you can keep some thoughts away..but the subconscious is processing every thing..
Kids have very tender nervous system and get over stimulated.. So, Never take them to movies unless it's made for their age group.
Anything that triggers your stress response.. Your fight fight freeze... Can cause
Nervous system dysregulation - how many teens are dealing with - anxiety , distraction , restlessness , lack of focus , feeling stuck (freeze response)
How will such content impact their developing brains?
Just like porn - increased stimulation is needed to elicit same response .
I remember .. In the movie Ghajini one blow to the skull got the bone to crack & that used to repeatedly play in my head as an 18 yr old..
As a young person watching Movies like Paruthiveeran & Pithamagan
Violence was slowly getting normalised in my head.
My question is when such movies actually come under the A category ..it is given a U/A rating so that everyone can go for it.. People don't realise the impact of all this on a developing brain
Will we take our children or teens to an emergency ward in a hospital ..where they can see broken bones , bleeding , crushed skulls or people screaming for dear life?
So what I feel is the solution to all this:
If parents understand mental health and the impact of all this on the brain & body... They can take a call to watch the content first and discuss with their teens if they are ok or not ok in them consuming a specific content..
Whatever was part of mental health , let's say brain or nervous system . It should be common knowledge. Just like sexual health ..
Only docs talking about bodies ..only psychologists and psychiatrists talking about brain... No.. Let all of us talk..more discussions..more education .more awareness ..
So remember Stalking was normalised in movies.. now it's gone .
Body shaming was part of comedy but now reduced a lot...
So I personally feel it will slowly stop. Or eventually people who rate these things will realise the impact of all this and take a call to rate them differently ...
Let's wait and see...
Will these movie makers let their own children watch these movies?
What can parents do to understand the impact of the content that's consumed by children or teens.?
Will this trend of grotesque gruesome bloody scenes end or will it continue ?
Let's Discuss in comments
