This is such a great channel. You're so down to earth and informative. Thank you 🙂

Nerd here too. I have a fully loaded conky always up. Shows more useful info than glances tbh in less space, but it doesn't have the interactivity that glances has, which could be pretty useful imo.

I've used Glances for monitoring docker containers and my server processes before. Never thought about using it locally until now. Good overview Matt.

I am a nerd as well, Matt. Great overview, may give Glances a shot.

Oh when I saw the title I thought you meant systems that monitor other systems and alerted when there are issues i.e. heavy loads, system down etc. (example Nagios) Anyway this is actually a nice and useful summery of some very good tools! Thank you!!!

If you hit return and don't want to filter anything just hit return again to exit the prompt. You don't need to type anything in the search box or quit the program.

Once I got into Btop that became my mainstay. Looks beautiful on a fullscreen/maximized window.

You might want to make a step further and discover an atop for yourself. I'll give you just one unique feature of it - it can record samples it collects so you can browse through them, seeing what exact processes contributed to an issue of past

I find gkrellm has enough information to let me know if I need to run top to look at something. It's the reason I'm unable to switch to a tiling WM.

You can't go wrong with good ol' htop. I use htop-vim but htim is the same too, htop with vi keybinds. glances is definitely cool but bloated got a ton of features I don't need. htop is just simple, fast and good enough.

@@N0zer0 HTOP provides me the info I need whileas Glances displays things I do not need as an average user, but if our host loves Glances, I have no say.
