Sounds like a dangerous way to set fire to your home by simply tripping or having an animal bumping into it

Nice I see you got to demonstrate and experiment around with the map torch. You'll have to see with a peice you already put in the kiln if you can put a flat spot on a rounded peice so I know if that will help my problem of mine not having a flat spot. Always love and respect to you and your family from Upstate Ny

Hey Eric! I don't think the Map torch would solve your pipe problem. I just bought a Hot Head torch that is supposed to be more firepower so that is what I'm going to try next. My goal is to make pipe making accessible to anyone who would like to try it. We'll see how the next experiment goes. Thanks so much for the love and support!! Sim

All i have to do is bend a straight lab glasswear pipe into a "U" shape to complete my apparatus and test my wine. I too have this MAP set-up from sweating copper. Do you think i got this? Im feelin pretty confident! Whatdaya think?

I only had the torch, then i remembered i have a cigar glass tube. I dont think itll work, but im dam sure gonna try, lol Edit: so I was able to mold the bowl and push in the end. Was going for a steamroller. Unfortunately I only have a mechanics small pick set. Not sure if that's the reason I wasn't able to actually punch a hole through. It just keep pushing a bigger deeper hole. (I know a smaller flamer/torch would probably be the best way to fix that.) Does the pick have to be tungsten? And yes it did eventually crack and chip off. (I think I put too much pressure without letting it get warm enough to be maluable)

An L bracket and a hose clamp big enough for the gas bottle. Secure the L bracket upside down to your bench with either screws or a clamp. At the end of the L bracket put a nut and bolt and tighten. (this is so the hose clamp can't just slide off) Put the hose clamp and gas bottle on the part of the L bracket that hangs down and tighten it all up. Adjust the bottle to the height you want it before you snug it all up. Hope that makes sense.

Hi Adam! Oh it definitely makes sense and what's funny is that I bought those exact items on my last Home Depot trip for this purpose lol. I also bought a Hot Head torch head to mess around with and see if we can make any other pipes on a budget. Hope you're doing well! Sim

@@FusingShop Hi Sim. Great minds and all that. I 'm doing good and hope the same for you and yours. I messed with the Hot Head when I was trying to make sure this was something I was going to stick with before I spent all that money on a real torch. I could never get the boro hot enough to blow a proper bubble, but eventually we made a pipe that wasn't pretty but was functional.

You can get a hose connector for between the tank and torch head so you don't have to havs the head directly fitted to the tank

@@FusingShop one problem that have found is the hardware torch with MAPP or Propane turns a lot of colored sort glass grimy or even black. COE 96 enamel white gets sooty and has black streaks in it.

@@robertosborn2458 I hear that. It didn't work for colored glass at all for me. I'm exploring budget friendly ways for people to make their own pipes. The Map torch did make the one-hitter which I was surprised about. I'm going to do some more testing and see if it can be used to make anything else. Thanks for the tip on the Hothead. I may get one of those to tinker with. All the best! Sim

Can I ask what is the name of the glass itself or the types of glass that are used in this art? And is there anyway to heal thiner working areas of the glass? Or in areas that receive more heat repetitive use seem to get very brittle over a course of a day. I’ve tried different heat sources. I’ve tried different glass and trying to keep it thick in that area but customers do not like thicker bubbles that required them to use too much heat in the heat stays in the glassware to long which is also not good So I’m asking long stems with bubbles thin to win and more durable is there a type of glass I should be looking at or a different way to heat. The glass I’m using right now was given to me by one of my big costumers I’m not sure what types it is. There’s no labels just in a big box made to get money turn turned down, but I wanna get better at it. And understand it.

@@Gavintyler21 The 96 COE is made by Oceanside Glass. I think they call it System 96 they have rods and frit. Look up Olympic Glass out of Washington. They carry all of Oceanside’s glass. They even have color bars that are used in coloring glass in hot shops . I have bought some bars and broke pieces off them then melted them and pulled stringers. Very intense colors

If you use an iron pic instead of a tungsten pic because you need to heat it before touching the hot glass?

Hi Frogger! I don't know of any metals that you can safely use on glass except for tungsten. Maybe someone else who knows more about this can chime in here with some input.

it is absolutely possible. mostly just puff n chuck pipes and small doodads, I've tied a knot in a boro tube with propane on the same torch. mapp pro isn't OG mapp gas, it's only about 200°f hotter than propane. 3lbs of propane =14oz of mapp pro. use propane
