I worked in a glass bottle factory with rotating shifts. One week days, one week nights, one week swing. I didn’t even know what day it was at times.

Most industries do this. Some do *twelves* instead of 8s. Coca-cola did 10s and 12s; contractor 🚧 companies sometimes do *four 10s,* where you always get a 3-day-weekend. Water, wastewater, and power production 🏭 are often like this. Some do “7-on,7-off” style shifts, while others do “split shifts” where you work 3, off 4, work 4, off 3; with the Saturday you’re off alternating between months. If you do the 7-on 7-off, you never really *have* to take off of work; you can always just schedule it during your off week. If you work 5-a-week, you get the weekends off. The trade is that if someone is out sick, you have to cover and typically may not be off for many days in a row. There was one July where I think I worked every single day of the month, and a few 14/16s as well due to staffing problems during the pandemic. In the end, it doesn’t much matter; you’ll pretty much have to live at work, because of the cost of living crisis. after the IRS gets theirs, you pretty much still have the same $800 everyone else does to try and spread across all your bills. That’s why *you should always work a job you love,* instead of a job that (supposedly) pays more (in the end, it won’t pay more than the current job you have because your overtime is taxed at a higher rate, and earning more puts you in a high tax bracket.)

@@Telugutraveller06 Ball-Incon in Seattle 1986-87. We had six lines running. Number 6 made brown glass for Olympia and Rainier Beer. We made one million gallon jugs for Tree Top Apple Juice. It took about five-six weeks. It was an awful place to work.

That’s awesome man! 👍 that’s a solid place to work with high job security; we’ll always need more glass bottles. They’re great, easy to wash/sterilize, and pleasant to drink from, but are vulnerable to breaking so you’ll never be out of work. You also do a job that helps your community, produces goods, and gives jobs to other people; my favorite drink, *calypso lemonade,* comes in a custom tropical-themed glass bottle, and my workplace laboratory uses large quantities of glass bottles to run science testing in.

Glass is recyclable and eco friendly

It is, IF you have places to collect it. It has to be sorted by color white, green, brown. Plus glass is very energy using. A lot of glass ends up in land fills. And broken glass is dangerous.

How come the recycle of these glass cannot send straight to melt all of it instead of crushing it then melt it?

Crushing the glass into tiny fragments increases the surface area, decreases the volume size, and reduces the energy expenditure of the kilns

Hi, I'm creating a short, educational video about glass recycling and manufacturing. Would it be possible to use a few clips from this video? I'd be happy to give you credit. The video is strictly for education and not monetary purposes. Thanks for considering!

Compared with materials such as metal, glass price is good, mainly because its raw material is quartz sand
