What's the difference between an underglaze vs this coloured glaze? And is an underglaze necessary? Also, are both types applied to the inside of the mugs?

An underglaze is typically just colored slip, and its not necessarily. Generally underglaze is used for handbuilt peices so that you can paint on different colors in different places, but for mugs etc, using a colored dip glaze looks cooler and is faster
