This video shows how to glaze using the Majolica (also referred to as maiolica) glaze technique. The majolica technique involves using lowfire opaque white base glaze, and painting on top of it with colorful glazes. Because majolica glazes don't run, your decoration and line integrity you painted on remains through the firing. The technique was developed during the 13th century by Italian potters, which produced gorgeous detailed majolica painted forms.
In the video, I am using the Amaco brand TC-11 Teacher's Choice white for the base glaze, and then the Amaco TP Teacher's Pallet glazes for the colorful top detailed glazing. (they are food safe when properly fired) The beauty of these TP glazes is that they can be used alone on bisque clay, or used on top of the white for the majolica technique.
