Cassandra is the anti-Schue. While Mr. Schue praised Rachel’s talents, what he has actually inadvertently done was shielded Rachel from the much needed criticism that Rachel needed. Cassandra isn’t afraid to tell Rachel how much she sucks, not because she wants Rachel to fail but rather because she wants Rachel to succeed and do better. Praises are awesome, but if you never get criticism, then your progress inevitably staggers.

None of that had anything to do with a lesson in the real world. She was doing the exact opposite of what a performing arts professor is supposed to do: offer CONSTRUCTIVE criticism, build up the students, help them for auditions in the real world, etc. She was getting paid to do a mediocre job and bully students. Cassandra is not a good teacher. A good teacher does not discourage their students, they dont fat shame their students, and they definitely dont sleep with their students to give their other one "motivation." A good teacher does not coddle either, if theyre truly focused on their students success theyll be strict, providing pointers without unnecessary insults and theyll acknowledge when something is done right. Its nice if theyre nice but just like the insults, thats not necessary either, a strict focus on progress is necessary.

Everything you said is right- however I must say, Rachel needed this; up until this point her talent has been an excuse for her awful behavior. Ppl like Cassandra July and Madame Tibbadeux were in her path to teach her that as gifted as she was, she was not special nor unique, especially compared to the others in NYC. She actually needed to grow up in order to achieve the dreams she fought for because talent only gets you so far; you also need hard work, grace and a little bit of luck. Rachel had been given everything and now it was time for her to start at the absolute bottom and work her way up. That's how you succeed, not acting like the biggest star, but busting your ass and being grateful once you get there.

This is my first time watching these clips (I've never seen Glee so don't kill me, the video popped up on my YT recommendations list) and I think why Cassie (if that the teachers name) is so mean because in Hollywood or anywhere where there's entertainment they will treat you like absolute trash. It doesn't matter how nice you are, they will walk ALL over you. In modeling, they'll call you a cow if you're like three pounds over weight. That's why so many women in that industry battle with depression and anorexia. With the things I've heard about Rachel being a toddler when not getting what she wants is and storming out, she won't last in Hollywood or Broadway. She's gonna be walked all over by people who are way meaner than the teacher. In some way, her being this mean was realistic in Hollywood standards. I'm not saying it's right but it happens. It sounds like Rachel needs to be knocked off her high horse and needs to show respect to people she's trying to impress. She also needs to respect people's opinions about her talent. This is super long and I'm SO sorry 😂.

Honestly, there are Cassandras (bully halves) in the real life? Yes. Just as much as there are Rachels in the real life, and you don't have to look to far from her to find. To me, the half of the scenes Cassandra wasn't "kicking a puppy" or "blending a kitten" just for the sake of "ooh that character is bad", she was genuinely being the best teacher Rachel had, not bending to her, but rather... you know, pointing to the right direction? Those two halves of her character don't fit together. And that's why arguments that she is a bully feel shallow and arguments she was actually justified in doing all that feel nonsensical. And why put together such a mess of a character? To make Rachel look good? The inocent heroin who triumphed in NY despite her bullyish teacher? Well, that's cute, except she tore down her own victory afterwards. But Kate Hudson definetively was a queen in her performance. She managed to make this hot mess of a character actually believable if you don't think too hard.
