As a black man, I believe that the number one issue in the black community is fatherless homes and/or the breakdown of the nuclear family. That's it. So why ARE so many black homes fatherless? Part of the reason is that so many Black men are imprisoned. A second-order effect is the effect of imprisonment on marriage markets. Most people prefer to date intra-racially. If 25%+ of males are removed from mating market, then more women are fighting over fewer men. This tilts the advantage to men. Why marry when you can get the milk for free? Be a player.

They won’t say it because it’s wrong. I don’t think the statistics bare out. Black families don’t lack fatherless homes. I’d have to find the studies but there’s been a few studies that in some ways black fathers are more present in the home and play an active role than fathers from other ethnic groups. I think that the “fatherless” home in the black home is a pit of a persistent myth.

It’s a shame this guy can’t look in the mirror. This guys whole argument is slavery didn’t matter. He wants to talk about the development of black culture - but ignore that poorer quality schooling effects community... less access to quality food inhibits development of children... chronic divestment in certain neighborhoods so that they become ugly places to live in, and then are easier to be bought up by people who hold the wealth....lack of access to education leads to lack of access to jobs, so then communities are subjected to drug dealing/drug using. At that point, it’s eat or be eaten. So fathers die or fathers get locked up, either way children are worse off..... aka more disciplined in school..... and when people are pushed out of their neighborhoods, they cannot create a culture that is centered and rooted in community. So black people are getting pushed around in almost every way... but this guy just wants to ask questions and provide no answers more closely resembling a conspiracy theorist than a professor-type.

Then.... when reps get in, they pass one flimsy law that makes lives better for blacks... on paper. So supposedly they are the inky ones that help, ever. Neither have really helped at all. That’s why we’re talking about it the the argument from the right is still “wow, these dems want to support lawlessness and violence” and they still say that racism doesn’t exist. I think a core issue when talking about race issues is that the entirety of the black community is taken as a statistic instead of individual communities within that group. We do break up whites by their community for the very reason that they are not all the same. The black community is also not all the same and faces different issues. There is a middle class black and poor black disparity. There is a rural black and urban black disparity. There is a native black and immigrant black disparity. I think a big issue is that many black leaders have their power because of the status of native urban blacks in poor neighborhoods. People like politicians, diversity executives, and social science professors entire career is catered around there being a black underclass. Yet when we look at that particular group, their issues stem from the poor policies of Democratic politicians/leaders.
@FedUpSouthernGirl
4 жыл бұрын
Agreed. It has been called the "black community" on purpose, I believe. Most all problems in societies, especially so in America, are *class* struggles. The equity gap is not purely racial, unless data is interpreted as so when published. It is more difficult to look at issues that affect income disparities- namely social and cultural beliefs and practices- bit much easier to see a gap and say "racism must be the cause". The media and elites, however, cannot broadcast that this is a class issue as it would mean revealing their hand. Race, however, keeps attention off of their ivory towers and satisfies the lowest denominator-emotionality within the population PS thank u for calling out the race vultures who circle amongst troubled populations and feed on their despair

@Kevin Smith It is more than that. It isn't JUST government policies. The media is playing a big role in propagating the false narratives that we hear. I've lost count of how many of the black protesters say that cops are 'targeting blacks', when it cannot be proven. These facts are important (and track to Loury's points): 1. more whites than blacks die to cops. In 2015 it was 400+ whites died in police custody, and 200+ blacks. Yet you NEVER see the cop killing a white on mainstream media. It is super rare. This alone causes reinforcement of the idea that 'blacks are targeted'. 2. In agreement with Loury, 600+ deaths over 330 million citizens is a VERY low percentage. This number should also be divided by the number of arrests in 2015/2016. That number is almost 9 million. I think the police are doing well if only 600 deaths occur out of that many. Can it be better? SURE. Are we doing well even so? YES!!! As with everything politics, perception always trumps truth. The difficulty we face at this point is disseminating the truth, in a media environment that prefers narrative over raw fact.

What you said is not entirely wrong but you are seeing it as a Democratic problem rather than a cultural one, the Republicans are not without blame too because neither of there policies has worked. The BLM with all its faults is piggybacking a leftist ideology that is contaminating their response to a real big problem (policing and the Criminal Justice System in the United States is extremely flawed ) and the right, on the other hand, are criticizing that response rather than addressing the problem which they refused to acknowledge.

The problem that needs to be addressed and corrected is urban culture. Out of wedlock births. Single parent homes. Shunning math, science, and English. It's a pathway to nowhere for any population. Generally speaking, success for all in today's world comes down to morality, hard work, sacrifice, STEM, and English. Those are the needed ingredients and the ingredients don't change among different populations.

That short answer to a loaded question: "I feel like a man without a country." I hear you, Glenn. I selected this particular interview to listen to while doing other things, as I often do, because I felt (which happens too frequently these days) in need of a particular common sense and vigorous examination of chaos with the stubborn intent to make sense out of it. I am well rewarded. And one other thing. Buried away in the very middle of almost all of the racialized rhetoric drowning out any hope of calm thought emanating from the heart of this land - is a fact that so stubbornly refused to be discussed, that I wonder it does not loom so large as to eclipse all other discussions: the hundreds of thousands of black boys growing up without fathers. And we pretend, that this does not matter. And we, pretend that this does not matter. And we pretend that this does not, matter. Of course it matters. We see it (if we care to look) illustrated in a million ways every single day. And always call it something else.

Sir Laughs a Lot So true. Somebody said the black community needs a father in every home more than it needs a black POTUS. The Aid to Dependent Children is, according to Milton Friedman, one of the only programs which is not regressive. The problem is that, although the money goes directly to the woman and traditionally the woman is the best investment because she would usually spend on her children, the father could not live in the home. He might jump out the back window if the social worker arrived but how humiliating is that for a man??? Black families had fewer children out of wedlock than white families until the 60s. Most homes had two parents. Now the number of single moms has skyrocketed in all ethnic groups. The Democrat’s answer to that problem - Kill the baby before he/she is born.

@@gg_rider With all due respect... Huh? Up until the 1960's black per capita and household wealth was closing the gap with white America. Then the government and the feminists told black America it was cool to have babies out of wed lock and raise them (and also, some how got to work, I guess), but the government will give you money for food and housing if you can't do the near-impossible. Ever since then the single motherhood rate in black and Native populations has sky rocketed, and they have stopped closing the income gap Meanwhile Asians and Jews - famous for being white supremacists in your information free fantasy world - began to out-earn whites (and also have the highest rates of two parent households, what an amazing coincidence!) Mr Loury opens up the box of false premises flooding the culture. Nick: Yes, nod, nod, "Now, back to the false premises..." Nick fails to engage over the issues Mr. Loury brings up as central. He appears to be taken in by the BLM demands & racialization of everything. Nick's questions are PREMATURE: "Behaviors? Black Culture? Ok, then what kind of interventions would...equal outcome..." One track mind of Nick, leads Mr. Loury to apologize for not having "solutions" before he's allowed to challenge the premises of the Anti-Racism movement. A good interviewer should really listen and ask the guest to explain further, follow up on what was just said, not go off somewhere else with a preconceived question.

As far as solutions, I'd like to propose a couple: First, realizing that education is weighted against boys in general, allow for more activity. We need more recess time, for instance, and some short breaks. For policing, more bodycam requirements, and allow more jury reviews for accusations of police abuse. The police need to know that the rules are fair, and so does the community. The system needs to be able to be weed out the jerks without harming good policing. And of course, fewer laws against non-violent acts would help.
