Hi, Kamon , Thanks for all your info. I especially appreciate your "tone and manner"--very friendly, non-attitudinal. Question: I caught two swarms last year and lost one queen in September and the remaining queen is a drone-layer. I'm in the Southwest of France and have ordered a six-frame nuc with a Buckfast queen. (There should be three frames of brood and two resource frames with one foundation.) In an effort to create more bees/hives, do you think it would be possible to transfer 4 frames of the nuc to a five-framer with a feeder frame and the remaining frame of brood and resource frame in a two-frame nuc placed on top with a double screen board between them and a rear entrance. I would place a jar feeder on the two-framer. Or, would it be best to install all six frames in a ten-frame box and split them later on if all goes well? (I have to return the nuc to the suppler.) The flow is on now and will all but shut down come June 1st unless the sunflowers decide to grow this year, which they didn't during last summer's draught.. Thanks, John

All of my queen rearing equipment comes from jzbz. They are jzbz bars. Dadant or Mann lake carries them. Perhaps some of the smaller supplies do as well

Kamon. great looking cells but I do see one thing wrong with them, they’re in your incubator and not mine! lol. I hope you get a 100% return mated excellent Queens.

Thank you for sharing all your knowledge about bees! I am raising my first queens this year and have learned so much from you and others by listening to you at Hive Life and watching your videos.

I had to get some nurse bees for a weak nuc when it was 50 degrees and some wind gusts, the bees were crawling up my legs inside my pants; its like when you talk about the bees stapling your socks lol!

So, how do you choose the egg to put in the queen cells? It seems such a primitive way to make new queens. Since you're choosing the wrong cells.

We transfer larva you can't transfer an egg. We select from our best queen or queens and it works great

I am enjoying it immensely. The truck is awesome and I just need some tool boxes on the flatbed to make it essentially perfect for me. Thanks for the advice!

Hey Kamon, had 5 hives in utah had enough brood to make 6 splits. I seem to have bad luck with acceptance of mated queens. I understand it's a percentage game, but I can't help but to be pretty disappointed with the failure. I get to thinking it's something I'm doing wrong. Just making the split and plugging the queen with queen candy delayed release. Any advice on how to prepare mentally for the loss or improve acceptance? Thanks!

For introduction whith mated queens, i make nucs with old larvae and hatching brood. No eggs or small larvae. The bees understand that their options are "Accept or die".. I hang the cage in almost imidatly to use the chaos. They want to find a queen..and they do. Good luck.
