A couple of projects using Dollar Tree Crafter’s Square red glitter glue, a Dollar Tree double-ended silicone face mask applicator, and Crafter’s Square washi tape that my sister sent me as a gift. Very kind of her! I’m not really a big user of red, which I’ve always considered my sister’s color, but I am a big fan of using your craft supplies so let’s dig in!
My question for you today: is it me or is it the glue? I would have to describe this overall as a craft FAIL and I’m not sure if my expectations and/or technique is to blame.
Based on my earlier test of Dollar Tree glitter glue, I knew the glue was pretty wet so I used mixed media paper for today’s projects. First, I used Dollar Tree Crafter’s Square glitter glue in red across a washi tape pattern. The first try was a total bust - not enough glitter. On the second pass I applied red ink first and then the glitter glue, and that was better. Not great, but better.
I then tried the same glitter glue through a stencil. Learning from the first project (or so I thought) I inked in red first. The glue made the ink bleed and somehow the glue slid around the page. Isn’t glue supposed to stick in one place? Horrible. On the second try I drew a heart with wax Crayola crayon front and back, then applied glue within the shape.
Finally, I applied a line of red glitter glue and a line of iridescent glitter glue on paper to compare. I thought the iridescent glitter glue was pretty good, so I wanted to see them side by side. WHAT IS GOING ON HERE? Even several hours later the glitter glue is sliding around like watercolor paint. I put my heat tool on it and somehow that spread the glue around, which I would not have thought possible, and I managed to scorch the paper and yet the glue is still a wet puddle.
In conclusion, I still don’t like red glitter glue but I had a lot of fun with my sister’s three $1.25 gifts. I know I will get a lot of use from the silicone face mask applicator, my favorite dollar store craft tool.
