The Center for Global & Area Studies at UD is committed to tackling the most profound questions and problems of our time. To help students and faculty gain a sharper understanding of the rise of Global Populism, its causes and implications, the Center has invited several speakers to campus. Part of the Center's Global Populism Lecture Series, UD's own Julio Carrion answers the questions "What is populist governance and how is it different from democratic governance? How were these presidents able to establish this type of governance without using significant violence or repression? What are the factors that affect the durability of populist governance?" in a talk focusing on the five Andean countries in Latin America: Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela.
