Fighting a war against stupidity is extremely difficult. Stupidity is a formidable foe, and remains undefeated after thousands of years.
@bloepje
4 жыл бұрын
It's Darwins law. You can offset stupidity by breeding a lot more. In today's society breeding is mostly done by people that are less driven by rational thoughts. The more intelligent people are the more hesitant to breeding because they want to have a good life themselves and have a good environment for their future children. So in a sense: the smart people made it possible for the stupid people to survive better (think healthcare and such). The smart people have a higher survival chance of course, but higher survival without offspring is of course not fitting Darwin's law. You can of course try something like eugenics, but fortunately most of that failed in Europe, and later things like forced sterilisation has been changed from lawful to outlawed in the Americas around the 70's. (Canada as wel as the United States).

In Canada, our case rates are down across the entire country. Also in Canada, we face a critical time / decision with our US neighbors. The US is now pressuring Canada to open it's borders. 30 US congress people have penned a letter to trump, demanding that Canada provide more access to US citizens. They are apparently tired of the 30 days border closure extensions, the last due to expire in two weeks. Canada has worked hard to bring the covid numbers down. The US administration has taken a different approach, which appears to be to let the virus loose and hope for the best. Obviously it's not working. British Columbia is finding American travelers in places they should not be. These are people who claim to be travelling to Alaska, we are obliged to allow access through Canada. The route is simple. But many had no intention of Alaska and end up in tourist hot spots, far off track. Many are charged and fined. Prince Edward Island, on the East Coast, recently had a small outbreak of covid, after weeks of no new cases. The outbreak was traced back to an American who had crossed the border into PEI without the pre-approval required by that province. The only solution I see for US citizens wanting to see family in Canada, or to vacation, is to have holding areas in the US, where people are tested before being allowed entry. I doubt that would go over well with trump, and threats of economic retribution may, as we've seen in the past, be on the horizon for Canada. Canada is again between a rock and a hard place. Again.

I think that it is inevitable that we will see a second strike in the UK. From what I've seen, people are just ignoring the government guidelines and rules. I go out some of the time to sit on my garden bench and have a chat with neighbours but we all practice social distancing, it gives me the opportunity to get a bit of fresh air and have a good old gossip. I go shopping when I need to and always keep my distance from other people, especially the ones not wearing a mask and I've been taking Vitamin D tablets. I think that I've got everything covered but we'll just have to wait and see. Most people are doing well? I hate to break it to you, Dr. John. I work the counter rarely in Western Pennsylvania. We are a swing state, but my area went very heavily for Trump last election. Our state requires masks in all businesses. Compliance with this, in my limited experience has been maybe 60%. Surprisingly (or not, I guess) it is the rich customers with the nicest cars that I've noticed are the most likely to walk in without a mask. We have one section of the counter roped off with signs saying to wait at the other counter (to try and maintain social distancing). I had a customer come under the rope, with no mask, in order to get to the counter and breath all over me. My girlfriend is in Northern New Jersey, and they were hit hard. She has barely left her house since this started. But she is constantly telling me about how many people around her are constantly having guests over, and large parties. Her neighbors had a huge party with a house DJ for the 4th of July. Her instagram had a picture of a group of maskless people huddled together with a banner saying that her cities MAYOR had crashed their BBQ. We're actually a nation full of psychopaths and narcissists. It **really is** that bad. I never thought it was, but *it actually is.* This pandemic has brought to light something very seriously and deeply wrong with Americans. It's undeniable now. I'm very much motivated to pursue a job that allows me to work from home permanently now. "Don't know if you've got a COVID-19 app in the US." We didn't even fucking try. Mantra for this entire response, frankly.

Unfortunately testing times are quite long esp after major testing blitz. It took 6 days for reults to come back for my daughter and that was before the blitz has occurred. Unfortunately it looks like we can't keep up with the processing of the tests and getting the results out in a timely fashion which is quite difficult for those awaiting results. Most of those people in pubs are possibly still living at home with mum and dad...seems our government is not committed to eradicating this bloody virus.... my eldest is working in Australia and they have a different approach, but she says the young there are also mainly socialising as usual.. we need more emphasis on the way the breath can build up and hang in the air in indoor spaces, and how we must all wear masks whenever we leave home and keep washing hands and surfaces, fones, spectacles, pens etc..... Boris and his staff know this, but know with our climate, we have to work inside, ..... there's little we can do if people need to go to work.... I hope you and your family stay safe.💗

A fire truck lead the parade with lights and siren. Also there were still the fireworks at the Fair Grounds... just not open to people .. but you can see the fire works a long ways away. We have so far 140 cases of Covid and only 1 death (from the beginning). The cases were very low until things opened up more. And the young people don't get it... don't wear masks and party. My place of work - a petrol station in Herefordshire - now has facemarks for sale. Up till now I could not afford them, but I bought a box of fifty. I shall be wearing these when in town from now on. First visit to the Coop today with my mask and gloves. I notice in my little town that an increasing number of people are wearing masks. In my view the worst is in front with the opening of pubs and barbers. So wearing masks will be needed to counter this. Best wishes from George PS: I called 111 number in March, and described my symptoms: no taste or smell, severe ache across the back and neck, and high temperature ... but no cough or breathing difficulties. They wanted me to present myself at the Hereford County Hospital, and I noted that no buses ran till the next day; then they wanted to send an ambulance. I disagreed. I am a trough old boot, 58 and fit for someone twenty years younger and still light. Ride a bike as hard as I can daily, if not that far, except we have good hills. I don't know if I had Covid 19, but according to the symptoms nothing else really matches. I had a temperature for four days [off work obviously for ten days after] and still have a generalised lack of stamina. I keep going day by day hoping for good news, and follow your channel for the updates, though the webinars are too long for me on pay per minute broadband access. No criticism, but I am poor as the proverbial Church mouse. What I would love to have is an antibody test, even though false negatives are possible. If I survived one dose, then I would be less frightened of another. I am fitter now than in March, as my cycling has improved in stamina since. If I got through it once, then I should stand a good second bout. The result of any test would not make me less cautious. I am a blood donor, and would love to give plasma for Covid therapy, if that would be possible. How do you get an antibody test? No sensible route seems to exist as far as I can tell. ...
