I absolutely love my Glock 30S. Perfect fit to my hand, nice compact size, amazing accuracy, and .45 ass kickin power. What wouldn't like that? It is hands down my favorite out of my modest 9 handgun collection. The grip is chunky, but that makes it a very enjoyable gun to target shoot with, even using +P ammunition. I love also that it accepts G-21 13 rd. mags that are great for backups.

I've carred a 30S for 3 years IWB CrossBreed holster. No FFE or reliability issues. None. Compact length, Slim Slide and 10 round capacity - that's why LAPD special units and many other LE's order them so often that Glock made it a catalog item. I rented a Glock 36 from RangeUSA for one hour and had several FFE issues during a 100 round session.

I have been CCing my Glock 36 for years now. I love it. I carry mostly when fishing. I have the holster on it's own belt and I don't know it's there. It's loaded with .45 ACP hollow points. To me in my life situations that is plenty of fire power. BTW I have an extra clip. Great review.

I'm picking up my new Glock 26 Friday, now you've got me thinking maybe I should have gone w/a G36 instead. A friend is hardcore a .45 guy so his home defense pistol is a G21 w/Tac light, his EDC is a G36, and he's got 2-3 1911s, including a Wilson Combat polymer frame and stainless Colt Commander. Which I'm trying to get him to leave me in his will. Great vid Sootch, as always.

My Glock 23, .40 S&W has a slimmer grip and is more comfortable in the hand, but I love my 30S in spite of the overly thick grip for my hand, at least one handed. With a two handed grip, which I always try to use, I can't help but wonder if the thicker grip helps mitigate recoil more. Great video, thank you!

I actually had the 36 in OD which is pretty rare. I sold it like an idiot thinking Id replace it with the 30S. I bought the 30S and realized the handle was extremely fat and uncomfortable. I got to missing the 36 and now I want another one. They are super accurate, especially when you consider is such a small frame for a ,45. The 36 rocks. It would be awesome if theyd make it in a Gen 4.

Sootch, I was at a gunshow this past weekend and was comparing the 30 with the 30SF. The feel of the 36 was "narrow" and for the extra ammo I was interested in the full/rounded grip. SO I compared the 30 with the 30 SF. Personally, I have small hands and thought the 30SF was my choice. I think it would be interesting to take a piece of string and measure the circumference of each grip to distinguish the actual difference.

Many years ago I had a red 300ZX sports car and a cop hunted me down on the last day of the month to meet his ticket quota, and he damn near almost shot me. After that incident, I woke up to the handgun issue. I got a friend of mine to let me shoot all his handguns. He had all the calibers! After that, I read all of Masaad Ayoob's books. I decided I couldn't concealed carry because in my workplace that it was impossible to carry and also impossible to even keep a gun in my car, so I concluded if I had a handgun, I could only keep it for home defense. Mr. Ayoob said the Glock 30 was easy shooting for a 45, and super accurate, so I went to a gun show and bought one. The back of the grip on a model 30 has a unique quality unlike other Glocks. The grip has a kind of reverse "S' contour, causing it to seat itself into the heel of the shooter's wrist better than the other models. Mr. Ayoob said this helps the shooter hold the gun on target easier than other guns, but you do have to have a big enough hand (I am 6'4") I own one of the original designs (mine does not have a light holder rail) For a big guy a Model 30 is perfect.

I have the G30 and one reason that I can not 'pull the trigger' on a 1911 purchase is the G30's superior magazine capacity on what, I think, is a better design. I have lusted after a high end 1911 for most of my teen and adult life but it is hard to justify when I have a G30 and when I could purchase a G30, G36, and G21 for the same price as a tricked out 1911. Thanks for the vid Sooch...Excellent as always.

@Mooselola - You're right. The SF models are 3mm shortner from the backstrap to the frontstrap. That's the only difference. The "hump" on the backstrap is just a bit smaller, but can feel like a lot to some. The best way to compare an SF and a non-SF is to turn them upside down and compare the size of the openings on the bottom of the backstraps. You can see the difference.

You can not get by with 1 shot in urban environments, nowhere near it. When you're 500-700m away a single hit is decent enough, although we usually just left the sniper to it and did general covering fire. 4-5 shots is the minimum unless your an SF boy, handgun or rifle is irrelevant.

Beginning in 2007, Glock introduced several "Short Frame" models designated by the suffix "SF" As of January 2009, the Glock 20, 21, 29, and 30 were offered in slim-framed variations. These models incorporate a 2.5 mm (0.098 in) reduction in trigger reach, and full-sized models feature a 4 mm (0.16 in) reduction in heel depth. This reduction in heel depth corresponds to an overall reduction in length for those models. Blame the wiki for the confusion.

they are referring to the width of the grip surface. being a single stack it is indeed thinner than the G30, and thinner than the 9mm offerings of the g17 and g19. XD 45 compact is a good choice as well. Bigger than the g30 and g36, but still easily concealable.

I've heard of a lot of people putting their Glock 36 slides on their Glock 30 SF frames, to make a Glock 30s hybrid kind of gun. And I heard it works. I'd do it myself for the slimmer slide, and easier conceal ability, however its impossible to find complete 36 uppers for some reason. Probably because Glock would rather you buy a 30S than make your own for half the price.

Sootch, check the weight specs you quoted with the Glock website. There is a half ounce difference between these guns when unloaded. I really can't decide between the two, at this point. I was considering the small xds because online prices have dropped so darn low as of July, 2016. I saw once price from a very reputable , online gun store for under 400.00 for the XDS! The Pearce Grip Extension makes the gun much more controllable. You can get all three fingers onto the grip with room to spare. I have 4 G36 mags and all of them have these grip extensions. However they are supposed to increase the mag capacity by 1 round. They do but the gun won't tolerate it because the cartridge stripper won't push the top round far enough down into the full mag (7rnds) before the rounds bottom out. Thus it won't strip the first round off the mag if you are trying 7+1 because the slide doesn't fully cycle. It runs perfectly as a 6+1, and if you just look at it as a grip enhancement you'll be fine. These guns are a great Glock, but they are unique and some parts don't interchange. I put an extended mag catch in mine and it is much easier to drop the mag now, however there is no extended slide catch for this gun from Glock so the only real way to drop the slide is to rack it instead of hit the release which is kind of small compared to the normal G35 type extended slide catch I immediately put on all my guns. This gun is a great carry gun and it is a .45 so you have larger cajones than guys with .380's

It is not sensible assume you have any idea what kind of firepower you may need vs. what you have. You will NEVER meet anyone who has actually been in a firefight that says, "damn i wish i had a smaller gun with a smaller round count." Accuracy is final indeed, but speed and firepower are absolutely necessary in defensive preparation. I carry a G36 as well, but also will carry a G30, a G19 or an M&P on occasion and certainly understand that more ammo is a better thing.
