Exactly. As someone having a 24" 1440p 165hz TN monitor, these look a lot more appealing now. The only thing I'm worried about is the subpixel layout and mediocre HDR experience (very few are close to true 1000 nits). If they nail those as well I'm sold.

I think matte coatings are horrendous in general. It's the reason why 1080P at 24.5 Inches is no longer the gold standard anymore. There has been plenty of great 1080P/240HZ monitors that basically went to waste. The sharpness on those displays would be perfectly acceptable otherwise if they had a glossy coating.

Thanks for bringing light to this - I’ve long preferred a glossy screen even prior to oled even being a thing - you could always tell a clearer sharper image - it never made sense to me why it was never an option - which is a big reason I opted for the lg c2 42” as a monitor - and has been awesome! I have the Spectrum 27 4k matte. I dont mind the monitor for the pannel but I HATE the os/ui as well as how long it takes to go from 60hz to 120hz. And there is no way to turn off the auto-off feature. Glossy 4k oled is my next display but currently I wouldn't ever tell anyone to get the monitor. AND to top all this off I got it used in like new condition for half price with the stand. So you know... Wait, there coming out with a 480Hz 1440P monitor? (EDIT:) DisplayPort 1.4 only goes up to 355Hz at 1440P. I learned this when I got the ASUS 360Hz IPS monitor and whenever the FPS reached the 360Hz the monitor would go black for a second. I noticed it was a hand shaking issue between my GPU and monitor. Like switch inputs on a TV. Finaly, I did some digging and came across a wiki page explain the DP standard and DP 1.4 can only do 355Hz but DP 2.0 can go much higher. Until they make GPU (on the Nvidia side) DP 2.0 and the monitor DP 2.0 then 480Hz isn't going to work right.

@feeterican

@@badseedtech Damnit you made jump down a rabbit hole lol but here is what I found on the Wiki page. But, it doesn't come close to the 480Hz at 8 bit and that only gets ya 379Hz with HDMI 2.1b and 10 bit is 315Hz. HDMI is much slower than DP by a lot. Just look up HDMI standards and go to the wiki page and do the same for DisplayPort. Basically HDMII 2.0 will not even come close to the 480Hz. To get the full 480Hz on HDMI you would have to drop it down to 1080P. DP 2.0 at 1440P will get you 516Hz at 10 bit and 609Hz at 8 bit. If you go to the Wiki page, scroll down till you see the chart showing the resolution and Hz and above that in the text will tell you the standards of 1.4 and 2.0 and so on.
@badseedtech
4 ай бұрын
You’re not wrong, but you’re not factoring in DSC. HDMI 2.1 with DSC (2x ratio) will deliver 1440p 10bit at 480hz. DP1.4 with DSC (2.5x ratio) can deliver 1440p 8bit at 480hz.

QD-OLED isn't warmer. Its more accurate. The reason? Because there is no white subpixels ruining color accuracy. QD-OLED's biggest argument (TV SIDE) was showing off how well they could do GOLD which gives you pure gold, not washed out gold. So its not warmer, its more accurate. While color tuning gives you a good idea of color accuracy, it doesn't cover every single color the monitor will display. It usually picks spots on a graph and tries to make those specific colors match perfectly, doesn't doesn't mean every other color will be accurate which, LMAO. Its a good relation but not 100%. Which is why QD-OLED is more accurate color wise. I have my AW3423DW (first generation QD-OLED) at my desk which is next to my living room TV which is a Sony A8H which uses an LG panel inside.... and displaying the same movie/image on both, you can clearly see the monitor is more color accurate, both running "out of the box settings." Sure I can manually tune the TV and get it closer to the QD-OLED, but 99.9% of users out there are NOT tuning their displays. On that note, this display is you are reviewing is awesome. BFI is a huge boon for watching tv/movies/anime without the issues oled typically has with judder.... so yeah fantastic display. and right now its only 699.99. another huge win.

It would be cool to see the same difference up close in a real game between WOLED matte\glossy, QD-Oled and IPS. At the same diagonal and resolution, of course.

All anti-flicker option does is limiting VRR range. from 120-240 to 200-240hz, which makes VRR pretty much unusable, so yeah...

I enjoy paying for features that don't work. Basically the OLED monitor customer base as a whole right now.

@@DrakonR Yeah, better buy the LG 42C3 oled tv, it has more value than any monitor right now, and all the features actually work.

@@inceptionsd 100%. I'm taking back my PG32UCDM today. What a massive disappointment and shame on these reviewers for talking it up when it has serious issues.

Great comparison between the different coatings. It's a shame this monitor doesn't have HDMI 2.1 like the 27GS95QE-B.

Just curious, why do you need HDMI 2.1 on a 1440p monitor?
@SWEJmeister

@@badseedtech You can get 240Hz without DSC. It's not that big of a deal for me personally, however i know people who hates DSC and says it makes a big difference to run without any compression.

Glad I clicked on this video after a search. Do you think the lower resolution of this Asus monitor (1440 vs Alienware 2560) makes a big difference?

I never understand the pricing of 1440 oled screen. Its 700 dollars, if one can afford that price, one most likely have a beastly set up that can run 4k. And most would prefer going 4k ips rather than 1440 oled. I know one could see value for them, like HDR and low latency, but its priced very awkwardly for the majority.

People who don't prefer glossy are really coping. It's so blatantly obvious how terrible matte coating is in games like Warzone where there's tons of small details at range. It just looks like terrible aliasing but it's literally the coating. It's nice there's finally a monitor that doesn't have the black raise or purple hue of qd OLED.

Great review, it covers some aspect you'll see barely mentioned anywhere else nicely. Though it's not clear to me why would you test for color accuracy in a picture mode that's clearly not aimed at that instead of the sRGB emulation picture mode. I really wish we could see measurements resilts for that.

I can't deal with reflections and and get eye strain with longer usage with moderate brightness (and glare) and glossy screens, sadly. So matte is default for me. Looks like a great monitor though.

Hey bud. For a monitor setup for gaming/youtube/streaming what would you recommend? Two monitors tends to be the advice for that use case but with oled being so good for games but not as a second monitor, and potentially having an awful looking setup with mismatched monitors, i cannot make a decision

Not having watched yet I guessed right was glossy and left matte because the Bada Binga Text appeared sharper on the right. Now I know I was correct 😁 so yeah I'm definitely getting a glossy monitor, and I haven't even watched the video yet.

I want to buy an OLED monitor if I turn on my light on the ceiling I'm gonna get reflections? How you guys use that type of monitor if it's night outside? I don't like to play or work in a dark room.

Glossy meeh. Forget using it as a computer monitor at day near windows. But the biggest issue is the dirty gray issues woled monitors have. Forget about using windows dark mode as all the darker shades will show artefacts.

I guess if I ever need to buy another monitor in the future, might as well upgrade to OLED.
