Just ordered the pro and it should be here this week, so they say, and I am so excited. I cannot wait to get started. I have never used a laser printer before but I have used cutting machines and I have been very limited to what I can do with my other ones. I guess I am excited to finally get some of my ideas into the world in the flesh.

Looks great and thanks for the review but .... What about ventilation? They have videos of it cutting in a house no problems. ???? My laser cuts great but it has to have serious ventilation. If the ventilation is as big a the laser unit then why not get a traditional laser cutter?
@imagineform

I have mine vented to the outside(just a dryer hose), they are going to be selling an air filter that is shorter than the glowforge, I think 6”, and it will sit under the unit. For my use there are lots of advantages to the GF over other laser, there are of course some disadvantages as well.

I’m going to make the purchase of this printer and wanted to know if you’re referrals link is still working? Also you have been using this for 1 year. Is this the same laser tube and have you noticed any decrease in efficiency over the past year? I want to get the plus model and your code would be a great help. Thanks.
@imagineform

Yup the code still works if you buy thru GlowForge’s site. I have not noticed any decrease in laser power yet. Also they will be selling replacements tubes.

I have a question. This is a serious investment and I was wondering if you own an Etsy store or your own website. And if so, does the profit from the product you can make with this machine be able to pay it off in a reasonable amount of time?
@imagineform
5 жыл бұрын
I own an industrial prototype shop, I had the machine paid for in the first two jobs. I don’t think that is typical, but yes you can definitely make a profit with it. Like most things it’s only part of the equation. I have several different machines in my shop and really none of them are as valuable. Www.imagineform.com

Laura Calleros hi. I dodged the glowforge bullet (their customer service sucks) by cancelling the order and got a Boss Laser 100w machine. Paid more but got the full package. Great machine and awesome customer service. Happy so far

Thanks, Sorry but no. No 40watt laser has enough power to cut metal. I think either a much higher wattage is needed or maybe a diode laser.

Affiliate link? So your review is biased. Basically makes your review useless.
@imagineform
5 жыл бұрын
The affiliate link just give me a kickback if you order from amazon, doesn’t mean I’m affiliated with Glowforge. You are better off to order direct from glowforge with the discount code. I was an early backer of glowforge and have used the machine for a year and really enjoy it. Sorry you feel it was useless.

Watch more videos or go to Reddit and you'll see that anyone who buys a Glowforge will be able to have an "affiliate" link. All it is, is a friends and family coupon code to help save money for the buyer and the existing customer buy more Proofgrade material. I just wish the code was able to choose $500 off the machine or $500 off materials. I'd rather have the materials. I've been watching Glowforge from the beginning and still haven't purchased, but now that it's out in the wild I'm thinking about jumping in. You're review is helpful since I can see in the background you've had experience with machining other things and more than likely used plenty of other equipment that's comparable. My background is more in the sign making and engraving design world but with far less experience in actually machining anything out. I can easily change files to SVG, but will it natively take AI or EPS files?

I have to agree, that your review is biased if you get something for posting your own personal discount code. How are people suppose to get a honest opinion of a product, knowing you're only giving it positive reviews so you can get a kick back out of the deal? And the supposed negatives are not really negatives far as the glowforge it concerned. Those negatives you mentioned were simply, personal things you wish was included/implemented, it would be different if the company promised those features and they weren't implemented but they didn't. So its not really a negative to point out features that were never part of its feature set. So to use those as negatives are misleading in terms of using them as negatives. I wouldn't take anyone's input that posts their coupon code as they wouldn't speak anything negative about the glowforge as that would effect someone from a purchase with your discount code. I'll read the reviews on amazon, at least there i know i'd get HONEST and unbiased review.

For those of you considering Glow Forge Laser consider this first. The laser has NO built in software and will only function via a top notch Internet link to the Glow Forge Server hub! You lose internet connection you lose Glow Forge capability! If Glow Forge server hub is down or they go bye-bye at some time in the future you have a large expensive paper weight! What if they decide to start charging you connection fees? You have no choice but to pay up or your pretty laser won't work anymore! After paying anywhere from $2500 to over $5000 for a laser I should think you would NOT want to be dependent on someone else's server. Think about it guys/gals before you buy. Sure it's a nice machine, as long as you can connect to the Glow Forge server hub!!

This is very true and was a concern of mine. But I ultimately decided it was worth the risk. A few points to consider 1. In the time I have had the machine their servers have never been down that I know of, I use the machine almost daily. 2. They have/or will open source their code, with the number of users out there it wouldn’t be long to have alternatives. Could they start charging, yes, but their recurring revenue model is based on the sale of Proof Grade materials and designs. Not subscriptions.

Do you have an alternative that you would recommend because of this? That's also this same size or around this size. I hear what you're saying but I don't see anything else out there that's like this.
